What do you do if you go out of town for 4 months?

#1 Post by Boolajoojoo »

It's been months since I've posted, just on account of things been going pretty smoothly and I try not to focus on the braces too much... I've been lurking every now and then though...

Well... up until today. I just had an adjustment this morning and I was told that things are right on track, if not ahead of schedule, and my braces should be coming off probably around Christmas. I was very excited!

Just a few hours later, I found out that I will probably be going out of town for 4 months for my job!!

I will be calling my orthodontists office tomorrow to discuss what they think should be done in this situation.

I don't know if I like the idea going 4 months without any adjustments or progress checks... and going 2 months past my de-banding date... Plus the possibility for something to come loose and I wouldn't have any way to have it taken care of! (I seriously don't expect to have access to any orthodontist because of what my schedule will be like on my trip)

One thought I had was was to ask about removing the braces early and wearing a retainer for those few months... and then having them put back on next year... I know this would probably cost extra, but I don't really know what else they might want to do....

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, or if anybody has any thoughts of what else should maybe do about this?

*Edit!!* I apologize in advance, I just realized that someone else had just posted a similar topic! I should have posted on that thread, but I guess I'll just leave it...
