how many days to take off after extractions?
Hey, all. I'm have my extractions done pretty soon here and I was wondering if anyone had advice on how many days I should take off from work to recover? A lot of people seem to write that it's no big deal and go back right away, but I'm still concerned. I'm having 4 extractions done, first pre-molars, and having my wires and TPA put on 2 days after that.
I missed one day of school throughout all 4 years in high school, and it was the day after I got 3 extractions and an impacted canine exposed. This was because of the exposure, not the extractions. The only reason being that my mouth was still bleeding pretty bad the next morning from the exposure because of the really bad job they did at stitching my gums back together, no pain really. The extractions aren't that big of a deal honestly. As long as everything goes correctly for you, then I'm sure you'll be fine to go to work the next day.
I think it's more to do with how many you're having pulled, the complexity of the extraction (e.g. impacted wisdoms) and whether you are having the procedure done under local or general anaesthetic.I had 2 pulled the first day and 2 pulled a week later. I was home the day of and the day after each extraction. I think age has some to do with it too. I'm 32.
I had a fully erupted lower wisdom tooth extracted under local during lunch time and went back to work that afternoon.
I was 53 at the time.
I had local for those. I did go under for 4 wisdom teeth a couple of years ago, but that was even worselionfish wrote:I think it's more to do with how many you're having pulled, the complexity of the extraction (e.g. impacted wisdoms) and whether you are having the procedure done under local or general anaesthetic.I had 2 pulled the first day and 2 pulled a week later. I'm 45 and recently had 4 pre-molars pulled with just novocaine. I took the day off mainly because I'm a wimp. The pain wasn't a problem but I was worn out emotionally, had to come home and take a nap. I wore the bloody gauze in my mouth for about 4 hours, I think. I doubt my co-workers would have wanted me coming in with bloody gauze sticking out of my mouth
If you are going to be knocked out, you might want to be ready to take the next day off. Last year I had minor outpatient surgery on my nose. That anesthesia knocked my butt around for a few days. I would be okay and then suddenly need a nap IMMEDIATELY!

as stated above, it all depends on the extractions (how hard it is to get them out if there impacted and if you have any complications after) and it also depends on the person and their pain threshhold.
For me, I got my wisdom teeth extracted late june of ths year. My surgery went pretty well except that 2 out of 4 of my wisdom teeth were very impacted and so it took them a while to get them out, needless to say these teeth didn't want to come out. My recover was okay, swelling peaked the 3rd day and then progressively got better however that being said, i managed to get a bit of an infection on my left side but with continus amounts of rinsing with special mouthwash, and extreme amounts of water and salt I got the infection cleared up! For me, at this time, i was out of school and hadnt started work yet so i was able to lounge for a few weeks although I'm pretty sure after a few days of resting i could of started to work again. So it really depends on the person and how things go!!! Here to an uneventful extraction procedure!!! keep us posted!

If at all possible, I would recommend getting your extractions on a Friday. I recently had my premolars removed under local anesthetic and I only needed that afternoon off from school (no pain, but I had a mouth full of drool and bloody gauze), but I was happy that I had a weekend of cushion before going back to class.
Also, I think eating in public with four huge food collectors (aka extraction sites) is the hardest part of recovery.
Good luck!!!

Depends on what day you get them out. I got 5 teeth extracted - 4 wisdom and 1 lower incisor. I got them extracted on a saturday - I was a goner on Sunday but I was back to work from Monday onwards. Of course, I looked like a chipmunk but then it was only for a short time.jjjmac wrote:Hey, all. I also four extractions done on a Friday. I happened to develop some dry socket action, so by the timethat kicked in (Sunday night/Monday morning), my oral surgeon was open and had lots of early morning spaces available for me to come in for some relief. In retrospect, I'm glad I avoided say, a Wednesday or a Thursday. The timing would have been less than opportune.

I'm also 32 and just had my two upper bicuspids pulled yesterday. I am suffering some pain but thankfully I work from home. More than anything I am mortified about the huge gaps in my teeth and feel like a Deliverance movie stand-in.TWild wrote:I had 2 pulled the first day and 2 pulled a week later. im an adult and had 2 lower premolars took out one on one day and one the next day because they are not aloud to numb all of your mouth in one go. i had that afternoon off but went straight back into work and was eating soft food for a bit. To be honest i didnt think it hurt there was a slight ache at one point when pulling my teeth but not much pain.
i have also had to go under ga for impacted wisdom teeth removed on my lower jaw i needed a week off work because of the swellign and stiffness.
