Newbie introducing myself

#1 Post by MetalGerald »

Hi everyone. I just joined the forum and wanted to de-lurk.

I'm 51 years old and I've always hated my crooked teeth. I've finally decided to do something about it.

Earlier this week I had a consult with a dentist in Raleigh who does the Powerprox system. With my issues she says it will take longer than six months, probably nine or ten, but my teeth will be straight and my bite will be improved. My bite won't be as perfect as it would with traditional orthodontics, but it will be better.

I have an underbite but it's never bothered me. My teeth have a 100% overlap in front when they are closed, and she says she is aiming for a 10% overlap after they are finished. Really, I just want them to look nice!

I have an appointment on Thursday to get braced! I'm really excited about it, but I'm also getting kind of nervous as the day approaches. That's how I found this board, looking for reassurance from others who had gone through this process as adults.

So, hi eveyone!

So great to find this forum!

I'm in the same boat as you, Gerald. 42 years old and I finally decided to fix my teeth.

I just had 4 teeth pulled to make room, and I get my braces in 10 days. Looking very much forward to it, but the doc says I'm in for about 26 months of orthodonture.

Let the fun begin!
