New with questions!!!!!

#1 Post by Zara »

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum, but am I glad it exists!!! I am 28 and was braced 5 days ago. I don't know if I am being too impatient but I was wondering how long you felt that eating solid food (even then, it is soft solid food : pasta, soft bread, pancakes) was sort of sensitive. I can't really say it is painful (compared to what it was the day I got braced), but I can definitely say my molars (among other teeth) are sensitive when I chew and I have noticed that it seems a little more sensitive on my left side. Note that I don't need any painkillers, I just find it annoying. How long did it last for you?

Also, is it normal that I can actually feel my teeth move. When I chew or swallow, I actually feel that they are a little unstable. Will that ever go away?

Thank you so much for the help!!!! :)

Congratulations on being braced.
It's normal to have sensitive teeth when you are first braced and after adjustments - especially the adjustments at the beginning of your treatment. The best thing you can do is to try to chew more, rather than be soft on your teeth. After a few days you'll be eating normally again. It's also normal for your teeth to feel a little wobbly at first.

Hi!
The initial pain varies between people, for me it was 3 and half weeks of soft foods cause i coudnt stand chewing anything solid. Also i couldnt bare my upper teeth touching my lower ones: IT HURT SO BAD.

All i can say is be patient maybe for you the pain will go away faster.

Welcome!

I believe the slight wobbliness of our teeth comes and goes throughout treatment. After all, they are on the move, which means they can't stay tightly in their original places, right? Or else we'd all ask for our money back!

My braces have been on for a month, and I find that I can actually push a little bit on some of my teeth with my tongue, and barely nudge them toward the direction they're supposed to go. It's a very very minimal movement, and they usually return to the position they were before I nudged, but even teensy changes in our mouths feel noticeable to us!

I've also read that others on this forum have, for one reason or another, broken a bracket or broken a wire, and realized that without the stabilizing influence of the wire, their teeth feel loose! And they usually freak out and post a "Help Help my teeth are loose" thread.

But it's normal.
