I got Damon System braces in August to correct a "deep" bite, a form of overbite. At the time, the ortho put some large blobs of glue on my lower back molars to prevent my teeth from biting together. This serves two purposes: he claims it accelerates the movement of my teeth because they can't mesh together and push themselves back into place. Second, it prevents my upper front teeth from bashing into the brackets on my lower front teeth.
But I can't remember what these are called. An assistant in the ortho's office jokingly referred to them as "pillows" but I know he used another term.
I had them as well---except my ortho called them speed bumps?! They were on for about 1 year (I am 31 months into a 24-30 month sentence.) I didn't think they were too bad, until I got them taken off and realized how much better it was chewing without them. They did leave a bit of residue that my dentist said he can take care of once my braces come off. Which I hope is SOON---I am in the "home stretch" but have been for about 4 months now...
I *just* asked the same question in a new thread about 5 minutes ago!
I hadn't scrolled down the topics list far enough to read this one. I'm going to go try and delete my other post, now that I have an answer to "what are buildups!'
Wow, I'm not too sure I'd want extra glue on my teeth where I didn't need it
I have rubber "buildups" (I'm assuming they serve the same purpose) around the back brackets (vertical not horizontal wise) and they act very much like little shock absorbers. Does anyone else have these?
