The novelty is fading...

I was braced 15 months ago, and for quite a while, I thought it was kind of cool. I felt good about what I was doing for myself, proud that I had the nerve to do it as an adult, and I still feel that way. The results so far are looking quite good, and I can see the few movements that need to occur before declaring "success!" Specifically, my crossbite needs to be corrected on one side, and then my uppers and lowers need to be pulled together to match up. But I must say, even though things have been going quite well and I'm very happy with the results so far, after 15 months, the novelty is starting to fade and I'm anxious to finish this process up. I guess the turning point occurred after the new year. Has anybody else felt this way? At what point in your treatment did you start to feel like the novelty has faded?

The novelty has already faded and I am only a little more than 5 months in. So, props to you if you're just beginning to feel this way at 15 months. The only thing that you can tell yourself is that " it will be worth it in the end," same thing you've been telling yourself all along I'm sure.

No pain no gain right?

I'm at 20-21 months now, and I'm ready to pull them off myself. I think I was fine up until a few months ago myself.

I've gotten some mouth sores that were worse than the ones at the beggining, near this end point.

I've also noticed my teeth are staining below the brackets.

I think maybe it was once my teeth actually started looking straight that the novelty wore off. I'm a month away from debanding now, and I really just cant wait to be done with this. Only thing is now I have to start thinking about retainers which kinda sucks, its like it never ends.

My front teeth moved really quickly and i was so excited. Now that i'm in month eight i havent seen much change. Its really frustrating not to see anymore changes so I'm ready to take them off. I still have 10-12 more months to go. Hopefully I'll see changes soon!!

I'll be braced a year on the 21st of this month and just in the last few weeks I've started feeling that way too. I feel like I'm stuck in a rut. My teeth(to me anyway)don't look really any different then month 6 or so and all I ever have done at adjustments is my wires changed.

I have another 10 months(or so)to go and most days I'm ready to have them off but I still have "issues" to resolve. I'm just hoping I don't end up having them on longer then I expect. My sentence is up in December....what a great Christmas present that'd be!!

I could have written your post. I'm sick stained ligs, of my molars not touching, of those damn rubber bands not going on right and flying across the house, not to mention the whole crazy routine of trying to keep my teeth clean. My "Ok, I've had enough" moment happened about the same time as you--at the 14 month mark (out of 30). I'm at bite fixing stage which is just not as exciting as seeing my insanely crooked teeth line up in a row. I promised myself that I would not ask "how much longer" until I reached the one year point. That came and went and quite frankly, I'm afraid to ask. Now I think I'll make a new promise not to ask until I hit the two year mark. Don't get me wrong, I'd do this all again, but sometimes I wish things could move along a little faster.

Yea I have to agree with the people who were talking about not being as excited after the teeth are pretty much lined up. I am about 11 months in and my teeth really havent done anything exciting for the past 6 months and it was just so much more exciting to see all the major changes that happened towards the beginning. My original estimate would have me out of these in another 2 months but I don't know. I haven't been givin a date yet or anything so it could very well be longer.

I am going in tomorrow for my next adjustment and I think we are finally going to start getting into the bite correction phase because my ortho was talking about all kinds of things he would be doing this time and what each specific tooth needs to do. Maybe if I have a bunch of new stuff in my mouth it will seem like something is actually happening again, haha.

LOL I was over mine from day 1

okay no, really I started to get the itch about the one year mark. But more so in the last few months. Thankfully my road is ending in 2 weeks and I'm estatic about it!!

But I agree with most esp. LCARA I feel the same way about my teeth. They look like they're starting to yellow at the bottoms. I have had my cleanings and will go for one shortly after be debraced but I'm tired of the yellow teeth, stained ligs, sore spots on my gums, picking food out of my teeth, taking 20 min to floss and brush. I'm just over it all!!! Ready to begin my new journey - BRACE FREEE!!

Hang in there tough. It flies by quickly. And I myself have NO regrets!

I was actually going to post something very, very similar.

It's been 30 months for me now and I'm tired, tired, tired. I have been for more than a year. They were supposed to have been off around June of last year, but they kept bumping it back and back. Most recently, I was supposed to have final xrays and imprints taken for a retainer in January, with removal in february, but when I went i January they found my midline was off. And now I'm noticing that my teeth are slanted, so I very much want to cry right now, as I have no idea how much longer this will take.

I just want to bite into an apple again! That's all I want!

the waiting at the end of treatment is a killer. I'm 16 months in and everything is going ok... I s'pose... But at this point I just want this braces thing to end. I guess that am ready to go for an acceptable result in stead of a perfect result just to be rid of the brace sooner. Arrrghhh

I'm almost 2 years into my 3 - 3 1/2 year sentence and I'm nearly done. My past 3 adjustments have been possible debanding appointments. But the last Wednesday of this month should be the end!!

Miss Smiley, wow that's great! That is a really really early release haha. I wonder why they thought it would take over 3 years to fix? Sometimes I think they should just tell us all that we'll have them on for longer than they really think, that way we will feel great if we get them off "early" and won't be disappointed if they do wind up staying on longer. I guess that wouldn't be very ethical if that were the case though...

Anyway congrats on being so close to the end!

It seems like there comes a time where the obvious, big movement stops and that is where it can get frustrating. For me that happened a little after a year into it where my teeth all looked straight but my bite was still out of whack. I actually got revved up again when I got elastics and a powerchain because it seemed like things were moving again. A few months ago it seemed like nothing was happening but looking at recent pictures my midline has improved considerably and my bite is no longer lopsided, so even when it seems like there is no progress there has been progress.

The novelty definitely wore off a long time ago but I'm glad I did this because my teeth are so much better than they were and it has been all worth it. Like Iâ€™ve said before my biggest regret in all of this is that I didnâ€™t get braces years ago.
