I feel your pain totally, i had a powerchain on my top teeth (4 links on the front teeth) and it was definetly painful! It did however get better after a week or so. I got a powerchain put on last week (later last week) on the bottom teeth *8 links this time, and it was super super painful, it seems to be better now but for some reason (not sure if i'm going crazy or something) this powerchain seems to be temperature sensitive or maybe its just because there still a bit of pain. One thing that I can definetly say is that i find with having the bottom power chain on food seems to get stuck in them alot more, more so then when i had the top one one. not sure if anyone has experienced this or not. but it will get better. What pain killer are you taking right now???

i was going to comment that probably powerchains hurt worse on the bottoms, and this seems to be what others are posting. i've found that my brackets ALONE hurt worse on the bottom...and i'm DREADING power chains. I KNOW I'll have to get them because I have HUGE spaces on the bottom. :( I think people with crowding are luckier...that's just my opinion, but closing gaps seems more painful than just trying to move a tooth over a tiny bit. LOL

Good luck!!

My ortho kindly gave me 4 powerchains to close my gaps on tuesday. They hurt :( but they definitely close the gaps!

I just wanted to comment on what newsboysgrl said about people with crowding having it easier. Most of us with crowding have to get teeth pulled to make room (teeth are usually crowded when there are to many trying to fit in there) so then we have HUGE gaps that need to be closed. I also had gaps open up due to my archwire and others open up from my elastics which my ortho will be using powerchains to close. I started out my journey with zero gaps. So either we are all screwed, lol.

Also, I do notice my lower jaw/teeth way more sensitive than upper. I think maybe because the upper jaw is fixed in your skull so theres plenty to absorb the pressure but our poor lower jaws are moveable and just kinda hangin out there all alone... I know when I had my extractions a year ago I was doing a lot of research on dry socket (bc Im paranoid haha) and it said the infection is a lot more likely in the lower jaw. I think our lower is just more sensitive to a lot of things...

jewles i definetly agree with you when you say that they definetly close gaps quick!! I had powerchains put on late february, and a few weeks into them most of the gaps were already closed, then again I think it would also depend how easily your teeth move and if there stubborn in terms of moving or now

andromeda: this does make total sense when you say the lower jaw is a lot more sensitive. I've really noticed a difference in terms of sensitivity a difference between me having bottom power chains and top powerchains. The bottom power chains are definetly more sensitive to temperatures (I find really warm stuff sets them off and really cold stuff sets them off and makes them a bit achy). This being said though, i have found that I have adjusted to the bottom powerchains better then the top powerchains in terms of how long the pain lasted for when they were first put on. When I got my top powerchains put on I can remember being sore for a few weeks and having a pretty hard time chewing wheras this time around with the bottom powerchains the achying pain seems to have deteriated rather quick (less then a week). So perhaps it could have been because I kinda new what I was expecting. I still say that the bottom powerchains seem to collect and trap more food then the top powerchains but that is just my opinion lol

I'm not taking any pain killer since nothing has helped. I've tried Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, and the generic brands. I've just been dealing with it. I can't really chew anything crazy, and I can use my front teeth to break things like chips. I'm not sure exactly how many chains are on this powerchain but it goes across all of my bottom teeth.. even the back ones. Things are settling down, but they still hurt a lot. I almost feel like the gaps are getting smaller after just 2 days... lol because my wires are already poking my cheeks. Oh well.. at least the pain will go away before long.
