Can't bite down either!!

#1 Post by heartstrings2 »

I got my braces just over a week ago... I've lost 13 pounds... I can't bite down to chew food, and soup is getting very old. I'm drinking protein drinks, but it's frustrating not being able to bite down at all. My molars don't even come close to touching. My ortho says "that's normal"... well I've had braces before as a teen, and don't remember this!

Hi Hearstrings2,

Congratulations on your braces. I know it's miserable that your teeth don't touch, but it will get better. It took several weeks before my bite felt "normal". Some of my teeth still don't touch. My ortho said it's normal because your teeth are constantly shifting around in your mouth. It is very frustrating. I've lost 6 pounds since I've had braces.

Keep trying to eat solid foods. It does get better! Think of it this way, your molars don't touch anymore because your teeth are moving. That's a good thing.

Hang in there and stay positive. You made the right decision.

Please let us know how your treatment is going.

Take Care!

Remember: The sooner you start eating like normal (no matter how much it hurts) the better and less painful it will get. Like the YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE COME HERE YOU SHOULD GO TO THE COTTAGE DOROTHY! OH SUGAR BARBARA STANWYCK slogan (at least I think it's YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE COME HERE YOU SHOULD GO TO THE COTTAGE DOROTHY! OH SUGAR BARBARA STANWYCK...) Just Do It!!!!!!!

Hope it gets better for you soon!
