Popcorn

#1 Post by rubberbandshurt »

I understand why bagels are bad, obviously they can break a bracket. Not eating taffy makes sense. But I don't understand why popcorn is bad? Can someone tell me why this is on the no-no list? I ask because I never restrict myself from it. Am I causing harm?

I think the popcorn is on the no-no list because biting a kernal could break off a bracket or bend something. I've had bagels though with no problems just break them into small pieces before eating them.

i to have popcorn even though its on the no no list. I think they also put it on there because kernals can get stuck between the wires and the brackets and so it could be harder to clean out

I didn't break a bracked on popcorn but I did pull the wire out of it's spot on my lower molar. I still eat popcorn around 3 times a week since it is one of my favourite snacks!

All of the above but sometimes the kernels are not fully popped and are extremely hard. Most of the times, people just reach into the bag and put the popcorn into their mouth without paying much attention. Therefore, they won't really notice that the kernel isn't fully popped until they bite into it...

My ortho told me that popcorn was a no-no because the shavings get caught under the metal bands and sometimes b/n the gumline and the band and it's dang near impossible to get out which equals lots of discomfort and possible cavities. I wasn't a big fan of popcorn so it's not a loss for me however I can't give up chips and salsa (tostitos and the like are on my no-no list)...let's just resolve to be careful!

I see I see! Thanks for the replies! I'm just glad as long as I eat popcorn carefully then I should be fine. 8)
