Are You A Sloppy Brusher or a Neat Brusher?
So I admit - I am a rather sloppy brusher. By that, I mean I'm not one of those people who can walk around and check their emails while they are brushing their teeth. I know people who do that and it's just a talent I don't have!
I need to be at the sink because I can't seem to keep the toothpaste saliva mix neatly in my mouth. Is it just me? Is there some strategy? If I could be a neater toothbrusher I wouldn't be as embarassed to do it in public now that I have too.

I was a neat brusher before I got braces. I used to be able to walk around and keep everything from spilling out, but since I've had braces I have to stay at the sink. Between having to make sure to brush over/under/around brackets and powerchains and the ever present threat of getting a toothbrush bristle snagged on a bracket, it's safer to stay at the sink and be able to make a mess there.
Time spent in braces: 16 months
Retainers: Top/bottom bonded and top/bottom Essix at night

I'm sloppy. I have to brush over the sink.
I don't use toothpaste - I have been using pure bar soap from the health food store for several years (google toothsoap for the reasons why if you are curious). It is pure soap made from saponified oils and peppermint oil. Anyway, it gets quite foamy and ends up running down my chin everywhere.

I was a neat brusher before braces.... not any more though!!
When I do my evening brush with my electric toothbrush, I manage well on the inner surfaces until I get to my front teeth, and then when I change to the ortho head and start to tackle the brackets, I think I resemble something not too dissimilar to a rabid dog!! Froth and foam everywhere, on my chin, and all over the sink!

Ahhh so I am not the only one.
I gave some thought to this and I came up with a theory.
I've been a sloppy toothbrusher even before braces so I don't think my issue has to do with braces per se. Perhaps it's more likely due to the fact that I brush my teeth with my mouth slightly open (like one of the other members dooes) because I can't breath clearly with my nose, I'm more of a mouth breather than a nose breather. And so closing my mouth to brush my teeth and keep all the stuff in there is difficult because I can't breath as well. That's my story and I'm sticking too it.

Probably super sloppy, its kinda like a balancing act. I don't brush my hair while brushing my teeth if thats what you mean.

For 18 years thought everyone was a sloppy brusher. I didn't understand how one could be neat when combining foaming toothpaste and water. Then I went to college and lived in a dorm with a communal bathroom. I saw other people brush their teeth and it didn't even look like they were using toothpaste. I'm an open mouth brusher plus toothpaste makes me drool like a dog awaiting steak. Not pretty.
I'm really sloppy too, and what's worst is ever since I got the sonicare it splatters if my mouth is too open. Like splatters on my hair and arms, all over the mirror and sink. I do clean up after myself however but I just don't know how you can brush clean with a sonicare. If you don't open your mouth wide enough it hits the bottom (or top) and makes an awful buzzing noise. Also if I don't "drool" enough I don't feel like my mouth is getting clean, the toothpaste has to spread with more liquid doesn't it? Or not.
