Jaw discomfort

#1 Post by Zephyr »

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has experienced and jaw discomfort since they got their braces on? I had my 3rd adjustment on Monday, been wearing my braces for 4 months now, and since my last adjustment my jaw sort of makes a squeaking noise when I try to chew. It's not necessarily painful, just weird and uncomfortable. It's happening more so on my right jaw close to my ear. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this.

Yes, a couple times in 20 months. When the bite was shifting around. Both times lasted for a month or so. One time felt like the jaw was totally stressed the other so lopsided and also clicking or slight popping when chewing. Was worrisome at the time as simply breathing seemed to exaggerate it. But was to be expected and did go away once the bite shifted into place. Wasn't fun at the time :(

p.s ortho said so short term, no damage can be expected although it sure felt like damage was being done.

Thanks classII. Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. It certainly does feel like some damage is being done, my jaw feels like a creaky door and makes a terrible noise when I try to eat! Hopefully it'll go soon...
