first of all hello
i'm wearing braces on my upper teeth for about 15 days mostly because of a lateral incisor that is going wild . my lower teeth will recieve theirs with in the next 4-5 months
my questin is, can braces also correct my overbite? i have an 60% overbite i think(the lower teeth ar covered by the upper teeth about 60% of their length), will my braces correct that or do i have to wear other stuff in my mouth to correct it?
if they will how long can it take? thanks
can braces correct overbite?

Yes braces alone can fix it(it has for me), or you may need to wear rubber bands somewhere along the line of your treatment. The time it takes you would have to ask your Ortho, and even he/she could only give you an estimate which may or may not be accurate. Everybody's teeth move at a different rate.

Hi Sawyer, I too have an overbite(110%) I've had upper braces since Feb. and lowers since June. My teeth have come a long way had 7.5 mm gap closed up top and my lowers are straightening out nicely. To get to your question though, yes braces can correct your problem, and it's up to your O. on how they do this. Some, like mine are going to "open my bite" using rubber bands placed a certain way, and a power chain, that will pull all the teeth together and back at the same time. It really depends on your O. and how quickly your teeth move. I myself had a beginning estimate of 24- 30 months, I am now 6 months ahead of the game do to my gap closing in 2 mo instead of 6.
my advise would be to have a talk with your O.-even if you have to duck tape him to a chair- and ask him/her to tell you how they plan on achieving your goals.
Good luck
