some advice please

#1 Post by reeve1987 »

hi just registered after reading around. seems like a good community here.
so my problem is as follows. im 22 and well havent looked after my teeth properly for years, regular brushing went out the window so long back, but now they're constantly sore more red than pink, quite badly receeded. im going to the dentist tomorow to see if something can be done about the soreness. i've started brushing again 2/3 times a day and using cordisil, but going to change to a softer brush, alow-very based past and a water pick. there is a LARGE build up along top right hand teeth which is slowly going away with regular brushing so shouldnt be an issue, but my gums have receded past the tooth bases on some.

i guess im wondering if its ever going to be possible to get my teeth straightened? they're quite bad as when i was a child i foolishly bit the metal handle on a see saw while it had just started moving downwards and BANG! it hit the ground with the bar in my teeth. i remember having the brace molds made and the gooey stuff going so far back i threw up all over the place ewwwwww. haha anyway i dont know what happend to getting them fixed afterwards. but its always bothered me and always wanted them straight. any ideas?

I'm sure if you want straight, healthy teeth that is definitely an option...but you need to pay attention to your dental health, especially if you've been neglecting it for so long. Your best bet is to talk to your dentist and see what your options are and make sure you aren't at risk for things like periodontitis. It's never too late.

Have a chat with your dentist - and don't be shy about doing so. Also, sheduling a cleaning to clear out the build up. I'm sure that they'll be very happy to help you get back on track. Ask his or her opinion about braces. My teeth were not in the greatest shape either, and I got back on track and now have nice straight teeth with my braces. I do have to deal with some gum recession but it's okay.
