I broke a bracket off

#1 Post by mwr55 »

Help! Today I was eating pizza and broke a bracket on the lower arch. I immediately called my orthodontist and he asked if it was bothering me. Naturally I said no. My next appointment was scheduled for Sept. 2nd, but since a bracket needs to repaired they're moving it to Sept. 16. Is that too long of a wait? Will it delay my treatment?

I've been braced for about a month now. The area around the tooth feels all weird, the pressure is no longer there. Will my teeth move back into their original position during this time frame? I'm worried. Maybe I should have lied and told him it was bothering me.

It shouldn't matter too much so early in treatment unless that tooth was way out of line with the others. That is a long time to wait, however! Sounds like that bracket is starting to bother you now, no?

I've had four brackets come off in almost 3 months, and it gets really irritating. Your teeth probably won't move much, especially this early, but I noticed that the teeth beside the one that has the broken bracket will start to hurt a bit and the pressure isn't there. It's also really annoying when the bracket moves around or slides along the wire. I think you should call your orthodontist and see if you can go in and get it put back on....that's a long time to wait, and it takes like 10 minutes to do.

I'm ready to sue the crap out of my orthodontist.

Still waiting to have a bracket re-glued, I managed to screw up the bracket on the adjacent tooth. I was eating fries from Burger King and heard a weird noise. I looked in the mirror and saw that the blue band on the tooth adjacent to the one with the broken bracket was gone.

I concluded that the broken bracket allowed the arch wire to move up and down, and sometime during the course of me chewing the fry, the arch wire moved down so far that it totally destroyed the next bracket. If I continue at this rate the entire right side of the lower arch will need to have the brackets replaced.

My ortho's office is closed today and Monday, so I won't get to talk to anyone until Tuesday.

See pictures... Sorry they're so blurry. I took them with my cell phone.

Two more questions...

Is their a special name for the bracket on the last tooth? I think that one is loose too?

Does it hurt to have brackets taken off and put back on again? I read somewhere that when they scrape the glue you bleed and it's very painful.

Oh, I forgot to mention my appointment to have that one bracket repaired was the 16th of this month at 1:30PM. I'm sure my dads' nasty phone call Tuesday will change their minds.

The ortho will probably complain at me because I'm 15. They kept reiterating soft food, soft food, soft food when she was applying the braces. It wasn't my fault the other bracket broke. It's hers because she waited to long to fix it.
