New with a few questions

#1 Post by kevmacc »

Im new to the messege board so im pretty sure these are going to be some repeat questions but it would be helpful i get them answerd. Ive Had my braces on a littel over four months and i have ceramic brackets at the top and traditional metal ones on bottom so my first question is.

Do ceramic brackets take longer to move your teeth?

and if you look at the photo i posted of my teeth youll notice that my two fronts arent aligned with my two bottom will my braces correct this and last

The coil spring in between my two teeth are to create space right.

of course these are all questions i plan on asking my dentist durning my next visit but i was in a rush last time to i didnt have time so any help i can get here would be awsome

Do ceramic brackets take longer to move your teeth?

----->I've had both. Ceramic as a teen and metal now. When I had ceramic (and that was nearly 20 years ago) they broke often which delayed my treatment so it did take longer. With my metal brackets, not a one has broken off. I assume, however, that the material is different and that you hopefully won't have any break off. I've read conflicting reports as to whether metal is really stronger/better/faster.

----->I know your orthodontist can correct this with elastics but it's better to ask him/her first.

----->Right

First NO I dont believe cermaics to metal have any difference on movement. Your teeth are the ones that will show that.

YES that spring is designed to create space. dont worry about the misalignment your ortho will take care of that. And the more that spring pushes apart your teeth will be off but that will be right before spring removal and within a few weeks of the wire in that tooth those front teeth off will move back into place. I just went through this.

I got my braces March 27th and I have the exact same teeth issue as you do on top right side tooth like yours in the same position. I can tell you as of today my teeth are aligned straight.

I had my spring taken off end of july and within this past month my behind tooth is with thier buddies. So dont worry ..when that spring makes the room...and they put that wire in there will be no time before yours is up with the others. be prepared for about two days of the throb. BUT ALL WORTH IT!!!!!

bit of a note.. my ortho said bottom teeth tend to move slower than the top. But for me personally Im six months in im 31 and my ortho cannot believe how fast my teeth are moving. So again depends on the persons teeth.

GOOD LUCK!!!! cannot wait to see your straight top row!!!!

I have ceramic braces on my upper and lower teeth and my ortho has commented on how fast my teeth have aligned. I had severe over crowding before I got my braces on in April, and now 6 months later my teeth are all aligned and I can start working on correcting my open bite! But, like someone else posted above, I don't ceramics work any slower than metal braces, and just to add I've never had a bracket break off and I have eaten a lot of hard and chewy things. :D

OMG!!! I don't have a picture but my one tooth looks exactly like yours! I have never seen anyone with a tooth set back like that. I am getting braces in December. I was having a problem with an overbite and TMD. I am 53 (tomorrow)! :shock:
