Most dentists and orthodontists are honest and would not do this. However, you should know that it HAS happened, and the patients were left holding the bag with no recourse.
Well said here I was already done with treatment and such and called to have my 1 year retainer check done well the office is no more they closed there office unexpectedly
Wow. What happened?
Not so sure what happened. I called the number I had which apperently is his other office about 38 miles away from his office I went to for treatment so I wasn't going to drive that extra distance just to go in for a retainer check-up. Anyways from what I hear is the place the ortho was at they were renting the building and the owner of the building defulted in payment or whatever so the building was forclosed on. I don't know if that's true or not cause I still see other businesses that were there all these years still there in the same building as the ortho was. Longer story short I just had a molar extraction done last month and well... that's a mistake I should of paid the 800+ to get it repaired instead of extracted. Now my teeth are shifting a bit. :?

When you extract a tooth and don't put an implant where the tooth used to be at, then you will have teeth shifting.

Your right there, however I have been out of work for a month and just got back to work recently... At the time of the extraction I only could afford the extraction and not the implant or at least an implant option was not given to me but I know it would have been costly and I couldn't afford that.

Are you going to get the implant now?

I pay monthly. I already got a discount because my girlfriend knows the ortho -- which is a big bonus to me.
