Slight lip strain need help.

Teeth side view

Hi, I am nearing the end of treatment now, however a slight lip strain has developed. It seems that my two upper incisors are abit slanted forward than I would of liked.

Two questions:

1. Using my hand drawn image, would it hard to move the angle of the blue line to where the green line is? I need the majority of the angle to be moved at the biting edge and not the root edge. I spoke to my ortho today and he probably got the wrong idea but I think he thought I was talking about moving the whole tooth back i.e. the purple line (I want just the biting edge moved back). His answer was to extract my upper premolars, surely this is wrong is it? Pleae enlighten me.

2. When my lips are closed my upper incisors kind of touch/dig into the lower region of my lower lip. Are the incisors ment to be anywhere near here in a normal person?

Thank You

I had a slight lip starin as well. They took my first premolars out. Regretting it. Try something else.

Sounds like your ortho needs to create space to correct the flaring of your front teeth via extractions.

I have flaring of front teeth and my ortho suggested damon braces to widen my arch to create the space to pull those teeth back. If you have traditional braces i wonder could they do the same thing? I am 13 months into treatment right now and i am unsure whether it will be corrected fully because there really is no room in my mouth. But i have mentioned to him a couple times throughout treatment if he still felt that the results i am looking for can be accomplished without extractions and he said yes so fingers crossed.

A few people have asked about this in the past week or so -- can teeth be tilted in a bit instead of being physically moved back. I felt like it wasn't possible because of the bend of the arch, but couldn't think of a good example to demonstrate why I thought that.

Finally -- I thought of a flower (silly example, I know). When the petals are all extended, they don't overlap, but as you tilt them inward without moving the base of the petal, they start to get closer together and eventually overlap. I think this the same problem with teeth and why they usually have to make room through IPR, extractions, surgery, or expansion (regular or surgically assisted) if you want to tilt your teeth down so they don't flare out as much.

By having teeth flare outward that the widest (and visible) parts of the teeth, you create more room without any of the above-mentioned methods but then you have flared teeth. If it's something you can live with and the results are stable and unlikely to shift, more power to you. :)

Pretty similar to my case!!

this is my thread:

Doc want to extract it but like you Im just happy to have it push back a little, i cant ilustrate it till u drew out the pic. I got your point. I believe IPR will able to achieve that.

Let me know your decision.

My ortho has already done some IPR coupled with a powerchain to pull the central back however its only pulled them back partially. I was thinking about asking him to attach a powerchain from the back to the lateral incisor, so one on each side. Hopefully that will create 1-2mm gap then he can try and pull the teeth back using a different method.
