PLEASE help, i don't know what to do anymore!

#1 Post by vita »

Hi all, i need some advice because i don't know what to do anymore. i'm so sick of putting up with my dentist! i'm sorry for a long post but i'd REALLY appreciate any help!!!!!

i started out with a class III underbite and used a face mask for several months, now my upper teeth are in good position in front of my lower teeth. i'm happy with that but, i've had braces for 3 and a half years now!!!!!!!!!!! i had them taken off over a year ago, everything was good but within a few hours after taking them off, my teeth started moving around and my JAW seemed to be going back to the way it was before, so a week later i had the braces put back on (and charged $500 for it). i don't know if this matters but when i had them taken off, i went without a daytime retainer for the first week (my dentist sent it back to the lab to get it fixed because it didn't fit properly), could this have been why they moved?

anyhow, i have seen little to no progress since having them back on and it feels like i'm never going to take them off! i've already paid the full amount off and i've already tried to get a bit of a refund from my dentist but he basically sat me down and blamed me for no progress claiming i didn't do what i was supposed to when i know i did!

what should i do everyone? i want to switch but will that mean i have to go another couple of years with braces and possibly oral surgery(this was recommended to me by an orthodontist before i went to my GD)? you would think that with the way my teeth have been for a while, that all i needed was a few months and i'd be fine but he just can't get anything right this time! i'm wasting so much time with him!

thank you for any help :(

Sorry your post just confused me! Do you have braces now or not? What do you want to switch to?

Let's see if i understood you right: you are in braces for 3 1/2 years, except for a week when you had them off, almost a year and a half ago. Right? One year and a half to have braces and to see no improvement doesn't sound good to me. I believe you should go see another orthodontist and get a second opinion.

yes, Felicia you got it right, thank you and i'm sorry i was confusing Jewles!

if i see an orthodontist, is it possible though that even now that my bite is fixed, he/she may still suggest oral surgery because like i said, when my braces were off for that week, it seemed like my bite was going back to the way it was (underbite)?

:(

I would DEFINATELY recommend that you go see another ortho! It never ever hurts to get a second, third or even fourth opinion! Consultations are usually free anyway so you shouldnt lose anything by trying!
