Hey paperbackhead, I just wanted to let you know that I am also getting braces on November 30'th. I still haven't decided between clar and metal though, but leaning towards all metal. I've been doing Invisalign for the past almost 4 years, and I'm kind of sick of trying to go incognito, I think I'd just rather have it out there and obvious at this point. However, some days I don't feel that way!! lol Well looking forward to following your journey as I go through it as well. I don't think I am getting spacers, at least I haven't yet and am told the braces are all going on the 30'th so hopefully not! Good luck!

Hi Desert Rose! So good to hear that we're getting them on the same day, you know, going through the same thing and all. Hmm, clear or metal, for me clear was $1,000 more than the metal ones. The only reason I picked clear was obviously because it's less noticeable haha... I asked my ortho if I could get Invasalign and he said that my case was a little more severe than Invasalign can fix and it would've been a waste of money because it wouldn't fix my problem as much as braces would. (I knew I wouldn't be able to get 'em  ) Good that you aren't getting spacers!! They are annoying! In the beginning they really hurt but now it's way less. Thankfully though, the painful days are over and have only 5 days left. Looking forward to your journey as well and keep me posted.

:D Hi paperbackhead,

Congrats on your decision to get braces & good luck on monday! I remember the spacers being particularly uncomfortable, but if you end up getting them, it's only for a week.

I'm a little bit behind you & Desert Rose in my journey. I've had 1 consult w/ my ortho so far, and my next appt. is in 3 weeks. I'm not really a newbie, as I had braces already in my late twenties (there are a lot of 2nd timers here), but the whole experience is so much more fun with other people to share it with.

Keep us posted...

Hey mikesmile! Thanks :) Yea my spacers still kind of hurt when I chew, but it's not enough to complain about. Happy to finally get them out Monday.

Good luck to you too in 3 weeks :) What made you get them again? Yes, it's definitely more fun going through it with people who are right there with you. I'm the only one I know that currently has (well, getting them monday) braces. Glad there's an online forum to go to. I'll for sure keep everyone posted.

Hey paperbackhead,

My decision to get braces again has everything to do with the fact that I never felt that my bite was totally corrected the first time. Because of that, my teeth have sustained some damage over the years. I recently consulted my regular dentist about doing some restoration work. This resulted in my seeking out an orthodontic consult as well, because the bite issues are causing the damage. I'm waiting now for my ortho to confer with my dentist about my overall treatment plan. My next appointment with the ortho is to discuss the details of the plan, before we can proceed with my treatment. You can read more about my story in The Bracket Club under "Preparing For Braces - Second Time Around". Good Luck on monday ! :D

Oh I see, well hopefully this time around will fix anything that's wrong. I'm hoping to fix my bite as well. Thanks! Good luck at your next appointment..and by the way, how long are you going to have the braces on for? I'll look into your story :D

Hey paperbackhead,

I'm not sure how long I'll have to wear braces this time. The ortho didn't get that specific with me yet. He only said "it will take a while..." :? I can't wait 'till my next consult to find out more.

Good Luck Tomorrow !!!

mikesmile - Maybe you'll only have to wear it for a year, who knows, hopefully!! Best of luck at your next appointment, and thanks :)

Desert Rose Thank you!! I'll be thinking of you as well haha, well you'd already have 'em on by the time I get them. My appointment is 10:30 Pacific Time. I'll be at school when you're getting yours.

Today must be a popular day for it, because I just got my braces too (not to be childish, but my appointment was 10.30GMT), after waiting for a year to get all of the necessary referrals and the agreement that I can have the jaw surgery that will really fix the problem. It's also St Andrews Day, which must be an auspicious date for getting braces put on in a clinic with a view of Edinburgh Castle.
