triangle gap in front teeth

#1 Post by 59fifty »

my braces r off in about 2 months but ive always had this triangle gap

its almost not noticable but the thing is, im worried the gap will open up once the braces are off, because i had a gap due to expanding my top jaw with a retainer device

my orthi asked me if thers anythhing i dont like, and i said no its fine. But i really dont mind the gap, as long as it doesnt get bigger

what are the chances? should i mention this at my next meet up

I would ask him to fix it. I believe they do what is called IPR to get rid of the black triangle.

Since you are worried about this you should ask your doctor now before you take off the braces. It will probably not get bigger if you wear your retainer afterwards, but since we cannot see what exactly you are talking about i suggest showing it to your doctor, and talking about it.

I have the same problem with the dark triangle between my front teeth. I have it at the bottom between two teeth as well. It's not as noticable as it was before, and my husband is telling me it's only because I'm focusing on it and no one else will see it. I don't know..... I'm paying all this $$ to have them done, I might as well get it done right. I'm to be getting them off by Easter but I'll be asking the ortho about this today when I go to my appt.

I don't post too often but this one caught my eye since I JUST had this done yesterday at my ortho appt. I'm hoping to have my braces off by end of Feb, I'm 3 months post op from dental surgery, have had my braces since Aug 2007 and was told 28-30 mths total which is on par so far. Anyway, post surgery I developed the black triangles in my front teeth in 3 areas also in the bottom front teeth. So at the appt yesterday my Ortho used a special thin disc on his drill that fit between my teeth and he filed away a bit thus actually making the gap more noticeable since it was uniform. It looked a lot like the Eddie Murphy gap but a bit smaller scale. Then the power chains were put on and wires put back on and the girl working on me exclaimed "Wow! the spaces are pretty much closed already" there is just a tiny bit more to close. I'm VERY glad I told him to go ahead and file things. I have trusted Dr. P from the beginning and I know the final results will be so worth it. I would say talk to your ortho if you aren't happy or have concerns before you get debraced. You don't want to look back and feel like you regret something after the time you've already invested in this journey.

I have the same thing and I was told at my last appointment that IPR (filing between the teeth) will reduce the black triangle by 50% or more.
