Inman aligners

Your dentist has to be registered as having been trained in fitting the IA, I'm sure yours is, but you can check on the Inman aligner website, which has a list of all registered dentists.
My dentist is not a specialist orthodontist, so I wouldn't worry about that side of things, as long as he/she has been trained in the fitting of the IA.
I think if you go a few pages back down the thread, someone has provided pictures with the IA in, so you can see what it looks like. It can feel a little bulky under your top lip at first, but you get used to it, and as it's removable, you can always take it out if you're worried about the size.
It's not invisable like the invisalign treatments are, but it works in less than half the time, so it depends on what your priorities are I suppose! My speech is nearly perfect now, but that's after nearly 11 weeks. However, I'd recommend it to anyone so far, this treatment really works, and that's definitely worth a few inconvenient months!

you can only really see the aligner if you smile like this - http://www.flickr.com/photos/iamali84/4 ... 949520242/
most of the time if only part of your teeth are showing you can't really see it - http://www.flickr.com/photos/iamali84/4 ... 949520242/
here's the thing itself. the strange blob bits are where the wires have been tightened - http://www.flickr.com/photos/iamali84/4 ... 949520242/
when i first got it - http://www.flickr.com/photos/iamali84/4 ... 949520242/

Hi everyone! My name is Holly, I'm a manager at a large travel agency and a mum of 2 and i've taken the plunge and get my Inman on Tuesday....very excited and nervous! The pics above are fab and settle my nerves a bit actually being able to see what they will be like on so Thankyou for posting! I'll try and load up some pictures of my journey once i've started it! Good luck to anyone else starting soon too!
I've got an appointment on Friday which I hope will be one of my last! I went 3 weeks ago and he said it's about 3 or so weeks to go, don't think they're quiteeee there yet tho. Gotta decide what retainer I want in the new year... I have no idea!emmsyg wrote:Wow, your pictures look great, wish mine were moving as fast, but am getting there! Are you finished now iamali?
Hello! Its so nice to see someone starting at the same time as me!yay! Finding it not as bad as i expected apart from the pain when i put the aligner back in after eating is so bad!!Im hoping this will ease soon! My speach isn't great but again im sure wth practise it will be ok. Keep in touch with your progress!! Holly
The pain doesnt seem to be so bad, although I am not eating stuff as easily and the thought of biting into an apple makes me cringe! Hopefully it will settle down. I am totally convinced I have had movement already, which is great because the thing feels enormous so already I cant wait to get rid of it. Loads of wear over xmas break and hoepfully will see some real changes. My speech is shocking, but like you say hopefully it will bet better soon! And if not, those around us will be loving the peace and quiet.... keep in touch!
Well here i am 1 week into my treatment and no visable change but its still early days. No pain now when taking out/putting in appliance just a small amount of pressure. Speaking not too bad but still feeling very self concious about it! Does anyone know where the best place for the outer bar to sit is? JNAY i hope you are doing ok and settling in well like me! everyone i tell seems really pleased for me and all comment "why do you need that" but i know they are only trying to be nice lol!
Hi Holly, yes I am settling in too, still very self-conscious, but hopefully it wont be for long! I am hiding away over xmas!! My dentist told me the bar has to be as high up as possible, to exert more pressure, but am not sure if thats just for my case - can anyone else confirm that?
I am sure I have had movement, they look different I am sure. I am due back to the dentist in 2 weeks from now, are you going every 3 weeks too?

Hi. I'm considering getting IA's in the new year and have found some of your posts really helpful. Just a couple of questions. A lot of people on here seem to have worn braces as a child and are now re-correcting their teeth with these. Are there people for who this is their first orthodontic treatment as it would be for me at 29 years old.
Also, does anyone have them on their bottom teeth? I've been told it would be 12 weeks to do the top and then 12 weeks to do the bottom after that. Most people I've seen on here only have them on the top so any experience of bottom teeth would be appreciated.
Finally, do you have to wear a retainer after you've finished the treatment and if so how long for? Just worried that I'll spend this money getting them looking good and then in a couple of years they'll be back looking like they do now so anyone who has had theirs off for a while now, I'd love to hear from you!
Thanks in advance for any advice

hi lulu1980, I'm 27 and the inman has been my first orthodontic treatment, as I missed out on braces as a child, and is working very well, although I'd say I'm taking longer than most people here. I'm at 15 weeks now, and willl certainly be atleast another month. However, this probably has more to do with my teeth than the fact that I haven't had a brace before!
You do wear a retainer at completion. Most people seem to get a choice of a permanent fixed wire retainer secured to the back of your teeth, or a removable, invisalign style retainer, which you wear constantly for a while, and gradually reduce down to around 2 or 3 nights a week.
I'd recommend the treatment, very fast results, and that's with mine taking longer than most!

Inman Newbie
Hi All,
Today I've decided to make my New Year's resolution and that is to sort my teeth out!
After suffering 2 1/2 years of orthodontic treatment as a teenager the result was a lovely set of teeth.
Now aged 31, I have decided to do something about it. I am finding myself pushing my front top teeth in my sleep (I wake up and my tongue is stuck) so I know I'm doing this. Over the past three years this has caused my front two teeth to cross over. It's not terrible but I don't feel confident with my smile anymore.
After looking at photographs of my smile over the years there are no teeth to be seen latterly, I must subconsciously have decided that my teeth are too horrid for public viewing - especially to be captured forever in a photograph.
So, after being stuck in work this week,(which should be a criminal offense between Christmas and New Year!) I decided to be proactive and research into my options. I cannot believe my luck, firstly to discover there's such a thing as ‘Inman Aligners’ and secondly, that there's a forum like this for support. I have my consultation with my dentist on 13th January 2010 so fingers crossed.
Any help, guidance, speech therapy most welcome! I hear the lisping and spitting are the worst parts to get over. Practicing the 'Rainbow Passage' helps, I've never heard of this myself but it may help someone.
Jo
