The main reason for braces (6 month smile ones) was because i have overlapping front teeth, one of which was pushed back behind the other. After just short of a month I now have an ever widening gap between the front two and I'm worried that my midline is shifting.
Anyone else have this sort of experience early on in their braces journey? I'm going for a rewiring next week so can ask my dentist then but was in some need of reassurance I guess! It'll make a change from baring my teeth at my long suffering boyfriend and saying manically "look at the gap, oh my god!!"
I have had my braces 2yrs in February. I too had an overlapping of the two front teeth. As they straightened, a "black triangle" formed at the gum line, not necessarily a gap between the teeth themselves, just at the gum line, is that what you are talking about?
I have a 6 month smile brace and after a month my overlapping front teeth are straight but i have a small gap between them - Im actually really excited about the gap which is a bit sad - just cant believe that tehy no longer overlap. My teeth are shifting around alot - my bite is wonky too - apparently things have to get worse before they get better!
My braces have started catching on my cheeks which isnt too fun - just trying to put my trust in the dentist!

Its not a black triangle, its a gap the whole way down, only a few mm at the moment. Hopefully it won't be getting much bigger!

Mine also, it seems just as I think my mouth has hardened up another bit of it becomes painful and I have to start messing around with blobs of wax!
Appointment on tuesday for the next wire. I read in your blog (yes, someone has been reading!) that your adjustment was painful. I expect mine will be too, my teeth are still tender to touch so I'm not looking forward to it at all. How long did it take to change the wire?
My teeth went from being slightly crowded to having a gap between my incisor and the tooth next to it. My dentist told me that he wanted to deal with something else first and that he would then deal with closing the gap. When i went back 3 weeks ago he put a power chain on and the gap closed within days
Teeth can moved to all kinds of interim positions before the final end result is achieved. A space here or there that is later closed is not rare at all.
I had overlapping front teeth as well. After a month or two I had a gap and I was pretty excited about that. The gap got bigger but now it is closing a little bit. I expect to see gaps where there weren't gaps before as I progress.
It didnt take too long to change the wire - what took the time was undoing the brackets and tightening them back up again and making spaces
The dentist has advised me to take painkillers an hour before next time - as i have to say it does hurt. My top teeth hurt alot during tightening but my bottom teeth didnt hurt at all. I may have an injection in the top next time.
My gap is getting bigger too! Im trying to ignore it - I just keep thinking - I dont paritcularly like how my teeth look at the moment but I hated how they looked before so I can deal with this for a while - Still focussing on the final result!
Still can't bite into anything mind you... everything gets cut up into small pieces!
