Anyone experienced hair loss during treatment?

#1 Post by jun08 »

I wanted to see if anyone has had hair loss while braced. I have been in braces for 18months now, am experiencing severe hair loss & all blood work has turned out to be normal. Just wondering if having braces has anything to do with my hair loss.
Thanks in advance,

Hair loss could be a symptom of thyroid problems. Have you had your TSH tested? It is a simple blood test.

Also, if you are a woman and wear an IUD, I have heard that some IUD's are causing severe hair loss (look it up on the web to see this information).

Actually any hormonal birth control (starting it, stopping it or changing it) as well as major emotional stress, physical stress or rapid weight loss can cause hair loss. It's a temporary condition called Telogen Effluvium. You can Google it for more info.

I have had hair loss. But I also suffer from thyroid disease! I would have your TSH levels checked.
2 Years 4 months 3 weeks and 4 days in full metal braces!

Hi, I have been experiencing a similar problem since I started my orthodontic treatment 5 months ago, thinning hair. I have metal damon braces which don't use rubber bands to hold the wire to the bracket. I'm thinking maybe because I had x-rays while wearing my braces? Or because the archwire and brackets are just metal on metal with no rubber band to give any resistance, the braces are acting like a radio antenna, catching electromagnetic waves from wifi and cell phones etc. my other theory is that it may be the particular make up of the metals used either in the stainless steel brackets of the nickel titanium wires. Apparently this nickel titanium wire has been linked to heavy metal poisoning. So I don't know, what do you think?
