New to the board

#1 Post by meeksfor3 »

I just wanted to say hello. I am scheduled to get braces on 11/7/10 and just found this sight. I may need a place to whine and complain. Being a 38 year old man I don't really know what to expect but I am sure it will all be worth it in the end or at least I hope so. :?

Sorry but I just noticed that I put my banding date as 11/7/10 but it is 1/11/10. I am just anxious to get the process started and get these darn spacers off. They are driving me nuts, both the feeling of food stuck in my teeth and my sore gums. I will try to post pictures of the pre banding later but for now I am just thankful I found this sight that has answered a lot of questions and reassured some doubts.

Hi meeksfor3 :-1
I am 34 and also get my braces applied on Jan. 11. I can’t wait. I am so anxious. It has been driving me crazy for a couple of months now. I went for my records at the beginning of this week expecting to get spacers but didn’t get them. :jump: So now it’s just the countdown for the weekend. I’m trying to enjoy a few foods that will be off limits for the next 2 years. I get mine in the afternoon and have to attend my first day of class that evening. I will be in school until 10:00 pm. I hope I don’t have too much discomfort after they are applied. I will have my Motrin handy. Good luck on Monday and I will be following your story. And I love this site. It is so informative and everyone here is so supportive.
We can compare notes on monday.

Hello meeksfor3 and Boohill! I am 31 and also new to the board, and have found it to be a great resource! I will be getting my braces 1/12/10, so it'll be interesting to compare notes, if you like! Good luck on Monday --- let the journey begin! :D

They are putting the back bands on Monday and the rest of the brackets and wires Tuesday. They told me it would be easier on my mouth instead of having to keep it open for so long to do both the same day. It didn't really matter to me.

I am glad that you didn't have to get the spacers because they have been a pain. (pun intended) What type of brackets are you getting? As for me it is just the plain silver ones. My 9 year old asked what color ligatures I was getting and I told her nothing flashy. I am too old for lime green and hot pink. Although, I am a huge Kentucky Wildcat fan so I guess blue and white might be okay. :D

According to the Ortho I will have to wear mine for 18-24 months so we will have a lot of conversations over the next few months and help each other get through it. Good luck wycket and Boohill and God Bless.

I am getting regular metal. I will be getting the top and bottom done the same day. I dont have to get bands. I will have brackets on all teeth. She said if they come off then she will have to band the back teeth. So hopefully this works.

Well I got my braces on today. It was not that bad but boy does it feel funny!!! I know if will take some getting use to that weird feeling but I am just going to tell myself that it is the first day to the smile I have always wanted. I was really worried that my wife wouldn't like them but she said she did. :D

I have taken pictures both pre braces and now with braces but have not been able to upload them yet and hope to do that in the next few days. The ortho said they would try to adjust every 3 weeks and see how it goes. I can already start to feel some pressure on my bottom front teeth. I bet they will be pretty sore tomorrow. I just got to keep saying....I think I can, I think I can.

Hi meeksfor3
Im glad to see that you got your braces and are not in too much pain. As you know I got mine the same day as you and I wasnt in any pain either. Eating is just very uncomfortable. I guess that will take some getting use too. What color ligs did you decide on? How are you feeling today? I can definitely feel pressure but it only bothers me when its time to eat.

Boohill and meeksfor3, a huge welcome to the club!!! Looking forward to pics!!

Hopefully you're surviving the first few days - it's a huge adjustment and a bit surreal LOL. I also have metal top & bottom, and now that I've had them a couple months am getting used to the whole thing - especially the hugely extended night-time routine! Ha. I'm a 37 yr old female, by the way.

Anyway, the first week or so was the worst for me and after that it was much better. The hurty teeth continue to come and go as things shift around, but it's manageable and for me is a good, exciting thing (stuff is obviously moving!! yay!).

Good luck, hang in there and I look forward to seeing pics!!

Cheers :D

Hi petitcanard
How often do you go for adjustments? I see your ticker says 15 days until first adjustment but it says you have had braces for 2 months.
BTW I go every 4 weeks.

Hey guys, another new person here. I'm getting Damon system braces installed next Wednesday, Jan. 20. I was really hoping to get Invisalign, but the ortho identified enough major problems (e.g. crossbite) that I decided against it.

I think I'll be getting the totally clear brackets for my top front teeth and metal everywhere else.

Hello everyone!! Boohill and meeksfor3, I'm so glad to hear you are both feeling well after getting your braces yesterday! :jump: I joined the club this afternoon, and feel pretty good so far! It is such an alien feeling to have this mouthful, but I'm hoping to make a quick adjustment.

I ended up with Clarity SL on top, and Damon Q on the bottom due to their lower profile. No molar bands for now, and I'm hoping it stays that way!

I hope everyone continues to feel good, and I look forward to hearing more from everyone as things progress - it's great to have this opportunity to share our experiences!

I just went with gray ligatures, nothing flashy. lol I don't really have any major pains but feel the pressure on the bottoms. It is just the weird feeling that I have a wad of Reynolds wrap in my mouth that is hard to get use to. I am having some issues with the back band/brackets rubbing my cheek but I am just trying to keep the wax on there. Has anyone tried the silicon wax and is it better than the regular dental wax?
