My wires do stick out past the last bracket on the bottom arch, but not the top. They aren't poking anything back there right now but they have in the past. It seems like sometimes when they cut the wire it leaves a sharp burr on the end of the wire which makes it worse. I've never had a problem with going in to have them clipped when they are bothering me. Just let them know that it is actually cutting you and they should take care of it.

Ughhh I guess im just getting rather irritated at how sharp they all are. I mean even the ones that she ground down are still very sharp, just not rubbing the cheeks as bad now. So all 4 are extremely sharp....im just beyond words as to why its left that way?
If everyone can reach their finger behind the last bracet and feel no sharp edges, then why are mine that way? Arghhhh, this is drivin' me insane....

I get sharp edges too as mine shift. I just got a pokey wire on the top left yesterday--some gobs of wax have helped. The thing is, the more you injure it, the more scar tissue will form, so after a while it won't be so bad, and if you put some wax on it to let it heal, it should really not be terrible. But maybe you should see another tech for the clipping this time? Mine had to pull the thing out and actually shorten it so it doesn't even come to the end of the bracket on my very last molar (it was so far back I couldn't even put wax on it!). They might be able to do this, depending on your case.
Appygirl...
Not sure if your wires are still bothering you, but if they are, call the ortho's office and ask to have them re-clipped. I had that problem once, and they just clipped it. Rub your finger back there before you leave, and if you can feel it, have them clip more. It can be done--mine are smooth now. Really, you are paying a ton of dough for your orthodonture; do not be shy about this. They should want you to be comfortable. The wires should not be that ragged and painful. They can also put a glob of beaded glue on your arch wire to keep the wire from shifting.

Goin in to get my wires fixed again (I guess they will have to grind them again since they are too short to cut). But the gal on the phone said when braces are new the wires poke out and are very bothersome....so its completely normal to have this happen. And I need to use lots of wax. Of course my concern was, I dont want to have to use wax all the time, its annoying. Is this normal for any of you? Lots and lots of sharp poky wire problems when braces are new?
