Finally have my de-brace date set

#1 Post by braced4secondtime »

7 weeks from now I will be brace-less (assuming things stay on plan, which I'm hoping they will!) I won't lie, I'm not looking forward to the part where they sand the glue off. What little bit of teeth filing/sanding I've had done thus far has been uncomfortable for sure, but it will so be worth it, I'll focus on that to get me through lol

I'm in the last stage of my treatment, elastics to bring down my back molars about .5 mm so they meet, and 2 powerchains on lowers to close a couple stubbon gaps (they're almost closed up now) and 1 power chain on uppers just to keep those teeth nice and tight together. I'm really, really, really pleased with the outcome. It has been QUITE the journey, but as always, totally worth it. The final outcome is exactly what I'd hoped. I have to wear 3 elastics full time (as much as possible is what my Ortho said) so I only take them off to eat, brush, then back on again.

A couple thoughts: I plan to book a teeth cleaning, I figured 2 weeks after getting the braces off is suffice time to let things settle? When did most people find the tenderness of having their braces removed settle down? I'm getting my retainer the day after the braces are removed if that matters at all. I can not tell you how excited I am to be able to CLEAN my de-braced teeth and get them white again. I have the ceramics on top and almost ALL through treatment I felt like my teeth have appeared yellow. Even with rinses and diligent hygeine. To do it all over again, I'd probably would have chose the metal brackets top & bottom instead of ceramics. Anyway, that's hindsight lol

So I'm basically just coasting now, counting down the weeks. I will be sure to post pics.

Congratulations! If all goes as planned, I'm getting debraced next month too. I feel like I need to get my teeth cleaned, too, though I've done everything I was told to do while braced. On my debracing day, they're taking the braces off in the morning and I'm getting the retainers in the afternoon. I've escaped elastics my entire treatment, but my pre-debanding date is coming up in a few weeks, so I may be getting them. Hope all goes well for this last part of your treatment!
Braced (upper and lower): 10/29/08
Debraced: 3/17/10
Now sportin' a permanent bottom retainer
Alternate clear retainers every 12 hours

wow! no elastics at all! Lucky you ha ha they are not my favourite but they are necessary to bring everything together. Good luck and congrats to you on your upcoming deband date! It's so exciting to be almost done
