I should be debanded at the end of March 2010, but one of my molar bands just broke and slipped off and we stand before a problem. I could be debanded sooner, but my teeth are not perfect and my upper midline is still shifted by a milimeter or two. The last time I talked to my doctor, he said he would keep the midline as it is and take the bands off if it does not bother me too much. I wanted to keep the elastics until the debanding date in march to see it it does not shift at leas a little more after all (even though my midline stubbornly refuses to move).
What would you do? Have the braces taken off with and live with a slightly shifted midline, or have them cement the band back on?
I am very tempted to have them taken off so that I can have my next surgery sooner than planned.

My midline is off...and will be after my braces come off in a month or so. My mouth was so crowded before and the shape of my teeth don't permit enough room to make my midline 100% right on without making unwanted spaces elsewhere. I'm fine with it. It's not noticeable unless I'm looking at it....maybe 1-2mm at most. Then again, I never really knew about midlines until I was put in braces and I focused on it. I'm fine with my teeth not being absolutely perfect. They look so much better than they did when I first started and that's what I'm most happy about!
So, if I were you, I wouldn't stress about the midline being off.
upper and lower expander - August 6th, 2008

upper and lower expander removed - April 2nd, 2009
Next appointment - March 3rd, 2010
thank you. I will most probably let them remove the braces even with the shifted midline (mine is off by about 2 mm I believe). I believe my problem is the same as yours. I am missing a premolar on one side and thats probably why the midline refuses to shift to the correct position. It is funny really, because the tooth was pulled out by an "experienced ortho" when I was a child - instead of curing my too small jaw by an expander, they just took the easy way and made me lose a healthy tooth. Well...
The truth is that if I compare my teeth before the braces and surgeries to my teeth now, they are 100% better I just did not make a mistake of having the braces removed too early.
