Do you comment when meeting others with braces?

Oh man,
I ALWAYS flash a big smile at anyone I see with braces!
Here in Montreal, there are a billion and one dentists, it's one of the highest concentrations of dentists I've ever seen (due to multiple dental schools).
Maybe for that reason, I see A LOT of people in braces.
It's also a really young, urban, super-trendy city, so that could be part of it too.
I'm also in dental school, so I'm near dental clinics all the time.
Anyhoo, whatever the reasons, I see a lot of adults in braces and they always give me a huge smile back when I flash my metal mouth at them.
There is a definite comradery amongst adults with braces. We know we're both going through a painful, expensive, stressful, long and arduous journey rife with emotions and insecurities...that's a lot to know you have in common with someone just by exchanging a smile

I work in a large office. When I got braced over 15 months ago, several of my colleagues inquired about my treatment and several shared their frustrations about having worn braces as kids only to be having problems with their teeth as adults. However, I never had a conversation with another adult with braces until 2 days ago.
I was introduced to a friend of a friend and we had a very interesting conversation. Although we had never met, it turns out she had worked for the same company I do, but many years earlier, and we have some colleagues in common. The topic of braces never came up.

Apart from a 'braces buddy' in my office, who I now often share long braces-related chats with when we bump into each other in the bathroom for post-breakfast and post-lunch teeth brushing (although she has the more discreet invisalign, while I'm in brackets top and bottom so I'm pretty jealous of her!), I haven't seen any other adults in braces, except at my orthodontist's office, where they seem to be de rigeur!
I noticed on another thread someone in the UK pointing out that adults in braces seem to be something of a rarity over here. I'd agree with that. I notice a lot of kids in them though. I wish I could meet another adult in braces, and like takako says, flash them a smile like it's a secret handshake for our special club! I'm starting to feel a little lonely with my weird ol' grill
