Question about debracing day

#1 Post by juxtapose12 »

I'm a noob. Just thought I should get that out of the way.
Well my ortho never really gave me a and actual estimation of how long I would be in braces for and every time I ask he seems to dodge the question or say "well there are a few things which need to be done." Now the thing is I've been in braces for about 17 months now for an overbite and overjet. The overbite has been reduced because of elastics and he says my bite is perfect. I'm pretty sure the overjet has been reduced as well since I was reading over my chart. At my appointment in January my ortho told me I was in the final stage. Again, no actual estimation at all.

So...how long is the final stage from the debracing date? I'm curious because I'm going on vacation in August which is four months from now and I don't really want to be constantly fussing with them while I'm there. Do you think my braces will be off by in four months if I'm in the final stage?

Oh and another question, sorry. I'm a bit scared to mention my vacation because I think if I tell him he'll just prolong the treatment until after I come back from the vacation. Do you think if I tell him and ask for a sooner date he'll agree or just tell me to wait until I get back?

I know you are probably feeling down about your braces and get them off asap, but really it's better if you just let them take as long as they need to.

I doubt your ortho has a reason for wanting them to stay on longer than necessary.
