Inman aligners

Another new IA candidate!
Got mine fitted last week.....
It's great how I feel I'm gonna drown in my own spit as I scream
for help while sounding like the sloth from Iceage!!
Am loving the pain, it's like being forced to keep icecream on the front
six top teeth while a neolithic blacksmith winds it open with a special crank,
a bit like car bearing splitter in a junkyard..... (which funny enough is what it looks like when I remove it from my shocked face every time I eat)
I find myself looking at what looks like a mangled wheelchair thinking........Hmmmm your gonna give me that "Martini Drinkers" smile I was after in record time, so I put up with it.....kinda like how I put up with my dog humping my leg before I had him "fixed".
Take the rough with the smooth.......you can't get the honey without getting a few stings.
So smile......it won't last long.....it could be worse........you could be a firearms police officer like me lol !!
Yea.....imagine how that's gonna sound....

My Inman is finally gone! Got a clear aligner yesterday, and will be getting a second in two weeks time which I assume will also act as a retainer. These feel so different compared to the inman, and no speech problems, although I'm glad I don't have to wear these full time for two years - definitely worthwhile going with the shorter inman route!
I popped into boots today and bought some soft brace/denture wax (clear)
as I found I was sluring a bit and always getting saliva up in the brace in the roof of my mouth.
My brace has the arch widener built into it that I expand every 3 days, as the gap is growing in the brace I find my tongue keeps going into the gap
to suck the saliva out, i sound like a proper weirdo slurping and sluring lol
Well I pushed the soft wax into the gap where the adjuster is and is much smother on the Tongue now and also put a band of the wax on the expander surface so now it sits tight in the roof of my mouth.
It's not interfering at all with the springs or tension but the upside is
no more saliva up there so no slurping and I speak totally normal now too!
Really chuffed with the result as I don't feel so self consious now when I have to talk.
To anyone else who has this...h
give it a go because my brace had a void between the expander and the roof of the mouth causing problems with lisping sluring and saliva buildup which are all now fixed.

Inman Aligners
I'm soooo glad I found this site! It truly has helped me through this process.
I got BOTH top and bottom aligners fitted 2 days ago after much procrastinating. I have slightly rotated and overlapped front teeth (top and bottom). Left tooth crossed over my right. It's not horrific and most people would not think I'd need to have them done but I've always hated my teeth for as long as I can remember. I've always felt very self conscious in photos and on camera (doesn't help that I'm a professional singer....pressure!)
So, the filing was actually fine (and I've never been a great fan of the dentist)...small metal filing strips used like dental floss. My teeth were very tight and crowded so my dentist had to exert himself somewhat. No pain, just a bit of pressure and nothing that I'm worried about having again - HONEST!
Since then my teeth have ached and have been painful removing the braces and putting them back in again. I've resisted pain killers so far (wine does the trick - lol!). It's easing gradually though. Starting to get a bit of rubbing in my cheeks so I'm off to Boots to see if I can get hold of some dental wax. I'm going to see if I can mould some into the gap between the metal wires behind my top teeth (thanks to who posted that tip!). Hopefully this will make a difference to the PIG AWFUL lishping. It was amusing trying to sing at my rehearsals all day yesterday with them in. Thank GOD I can take them out for the shows!!
It's definitely a mouthful but I'm getting used to it and I'm glad I've had both done at the same time. The lower aligner doesn't really cause any speech problems, it's just the top one. Anyone wanting just their lowers done then it'd be fine to speak!
I just feel self conscious in public but I'm determined to get used to wearing them as much as I can and put myself in scenarios where I have to speak. I don't want this process to drag on...
Even though I've only had them in for 2 days I think I'm feeling a change already - we'll see. My next appointment is in a few days to see how the aligners are fitting - I'll keep you posted!
Thanks so much everyone for posting - it's so encouraging and great for putting any worries in my mind to rest!

Inman Aligner
Hello,
Got my inman aligner on wednesday and i have to say it's not that bad!
Yes you sound like Louie Spence from pineapple dance studios but for 8-10 weeks i think i can handle it.Teeth are quite tender when you take it though. Didnt have to have an expander (is that whats it's called?) or tooth shaving so treatment was very straight forward. went for the consultation, decided to take the plunge, had the moulds and pictures taken and two weeks later it's in my mouth!
I'm in liverpool and my treatment cost £1500. I had an impression taken of my bottom teeth but have only got a top aligner, does anyone know if you have to pay extra for the two?
I'm happy i went ahead with it and look forward to a straight smile after all these years! x

Hi all,
I've been reading this forum since last May and just over two weeks ago I took the plunge and got the Inman Alinger. My story is a bit long winded. As a teenager I had fixed braces, they did an ok job, not great and they never gave me a retainer so of course they began to move, which is one of the reasons I got the Aligner. The other reason is a gummy smile. I've always had it but as the years went by I grew to hate it more and more. So much so that last year I got gum lowering surgery, and it's worked for the left side of my mouth but not my right. The surgeon told me that this was a possibility as apparently I have super strong muscles in the right side of mouth and he was afraid to do too much in case it made my mouth droop! Anyway, he recommended that I get Botox in that muscle to relax it and I did, but I didn't really see much difference....not enough for that kind of pain anyway!! He also recommended that I get the Inman Aligner as my teeth were beginning to protrude which didn't help the smile situation. Already I've noticed a teeney-tiny difference in my teeth. Depending on work I wear it for at least 14 hours a day, and up to 20. It's ouch factor is nowhere near the traintracks, and I have a little key to twist in it every three days. I'm just wondering if anyone else got the IA for the same kind of issue? And if they did, what was the end result? Did you go for gum recontouring afterwards? I really don't think I could recontour my gums as my teeth look fairly full, healthy and long and I was under the impression that only people with short teeth got this done.
Apologies for the really long OP...it's just after a year of trawling the net, you guys seem to understand me the most!

Hi
I've recently got an inman aligner on my upper teeth and this forum has been the best source of info i have found (better than my dentist i think!)
It only hurt for first couple of days and nothing unbearable at all. I seem to be seeing results already too after just 12 days.
The only problem i am having is with speech- i have the expander built in- i have tried the wax which does improve it a bit but i still feel very self-conscious with all this lisping. I did not realise how common the letter s was in the English language!
Has anyone else found any solutions?

Inman Aligners
RESULT!!!
Was trying to get hold of some orthodontic wax from Boots but they only do it online. Couldn't be bothered with ordering it. Decided to chew 3 sugar free chewing gums and mould into the space between the metal wires on my top aligner. I smoothed it over with my tongue so it fits the roof of my mouth....hey presto - CAN SAY 'S' clearly!!! I have no idea if this will affect the appliance - hoping not because it's soooo much easier to be able to talk properly. I'm making sure I clean it properly so it doesn't get sticky and affect the mechanics.
For now I'm happy as it encourages me to keep them in for longer.
We'll see how it goes...

Just got my IM fitted 1 hour ago. Had an arch expander in for 14 weeks so Im well used to wearing a brace by now. Stright away the differences are that the IM has no centre piece so its more comfortable and you have more room for your tongue to move about, however the bow across the front of my teeth is quite thick and feels odd. I can already feel mild pain from the pushing at the back of my teeth and Im taking this as a good sign that its working straight off.
The only negative so far is that I had kind of gotten used to speaking with the other one but this seems to have set me back a bit but maybe that will change. Also I notice a lot more of a saliva build up so I might have to try the dental gel that was recomended in a previous post.

Well glad your all enjoying your braces and that you all sound like me lol !
We should start a band "sid's Ice Ace rock arena"
The wax also works well if you press it down the center of the brace where the screw is to tighten it, rolling it into a thin tube the size of a match stick and running it around the top of the brace will mould it tight into the roof of your mouth and stop saliva build up so you don't sound like Hannibal Lecter when sucking saliva out of the gap !!
I've had mine in about 3 weeks now and can definatly see movement! so it's working, was meant to go for my checkup today but overslept, my face was dribbling into my pillow when my phone went off and the dental practice asked where i was.......my response was totally incoherent as my mouth was as dry as camels crack and I was still in a slumber with this contraption in my face :-/
Anyway I'm loving it..... every day I meet new people who when I talk to them, think I'm a vunerable person because of my lisp and the way it makes my top lip stick out like homer Simpson.
Still... a small price to pay for the perfect smile lol
Say cheese!!

I'm so glad I found this post, I was just speaking to an orthodontist, via e-mail, who recommended inman aligners.
I was just wondering, does anyone know how well it would pull down a tooth, if you know what I mean! I was told that invisalign wouldn't be able to pull a tooth that was higher than the rest down into place, taht it's only good for straightening teeth which are already fairly straight. Does anyone know if the inman aligner would be able to correct the position of the tooth in this way?

Luxy, not sure I know what you mean, if one is rooted higher then I'm not sure you even can pull it down.
If it sits a lot further forward it can appear shorter until it's put back in line with those next to it.
Or.......your gum line can be trimed to expose more tooth/tooth lengthened to match those surrounding teeth.
You may also find teeth are shorter due to the way your jaw and teeth have adapted to an uneven bite grinding in your sleep can do that too.
When teeth move, gums adjust too so give the look of a longer tooth but as for "pulling" a tooth lower (away from the root) I don't think that's possible without killing it.

Removing and inserting the inman
Hi, I have just had my inman aligner fitted today. My dentist barely showed me how to put it in and remove it, and didnt give me the chance to try to do it myself while i was there. I've worked out how to get it out but am struggling to put it back in without major hassle. Any tips would be much appreciated!
Also has anyone had rotated teeth corrected with the inman aligner? Would love to hear how you got on!

Hi Rach, if it's like mine, get your fingernail on the inside of your teeth and push the inside spring back away from pushing on the front teeth, then drop one side of the brace down with the other hand.
then gently let the inner springbar slide between your teeth and pull the bow that goes across the front down, the other side will fall out and job done!
To put it back, I press in one side then lift the bit that lives behind the teeth back into position, the slide the bow back over the front.
The other side then clicks into place!
Voilà !!
Easy Peezy!
Hope that helps
