Yellow stains on teeth

#1 Post by amy »

Ok, I'm definitely in that weird stage of having my braces for a few weeks. I'm still dealing with good days and bad and pretty tender teeth. Recently, however, I've noticed serious yellow stains around my brackets on several teeth. I use a sonicare toothbrush and floss (though I can't get between all of my teeth) but these stain remain.

Anyone deal with a similar problem? Any suggestions? It's pretty unattractive so I'd like to find some way for them to go away.

In certain light, I think my teeth are more yellow. In my bathroom I don't notice. When i do a mirror check in my car, they look very icky yellow. I hate it, but don't really think there is much to do about it. I do use a whitening toothpaste once or twice a week...even though its on the NO-NO list. Crest Vivid White. But haven't really noticed any change. Just think of how white they'll be after you get the braces off and get them professionally done....which is what i'll be doing as soon as they come off. :D

What kind of brackets and ligs do you have? I ask because I have clear brackets and clear (or sometimes pearl) ligs and when the ligs yellow, my teeth look yellow in certain light. I fret about it and about the time I convince myself my teeth are yellow, I get my ligs changed and they look white again.

You're not alone Amy, I have the same thing, it bothers me more than the actual brace.

Like other people say, different lighting shows it differently (direct sunlight shows it much more than artificial light for instance)

I'm guessing it's something to do with the ceramic braces, cos my top teeth look yellowish and a bit stained (ceramic brackets) and my bottom teeth look perfectly white (traditional metal)

It's not my teeth that look yellow :yikes: ...it's the powerchain. I have ceramic In-Ovation brackets. They don't stain at all! I go back for an adjustment in a little over a week, so I will just get new pearl ones, and stay away from the mustard! :jump:

If you look a pictures of my teeth which I have posted, I have a lot of glue, and because I drink cola all day long they get pretty yellow. In my opinion the metal brackets are far more noticeable and overshadow the glue and any other defect in my mouth, which is one of the zillion reasons why I love having braces. :D
