Pain after extraction - teeth next to site?

#1 Post by loz876 »

I had an extraction yesterday (28-04-10) and since it was a baby tooth it went fine. However now the two teeth in front of it (the tooth was a molar) i.e. the premolar and canine hurt... is this normal? Yesterday the premolar felt almost wobbly... even though this is an adult tooth. Is this normal?

Oh and I forgot to say... during the extraction, obviously since I was numbed, where he was pulling didn't hurt... but I could feel it on the other side of my mouth. It felt like he was about to yank my braces off, even though the tooth he was pulling o wasn't attatched to the brace!

I would just assume its from the pressure of the extraction and all the bruising.

If it doesnt subside then give them a call and check that its normal - i guess it could mean something else.

Having said that i am new to all of this and havent had my braces or surgery yet.

I kind of assumed if teeth needed to be extracted it would be done prior to braces being fitted is this not the case? I ask as i have been told i need to have all four wisdoms out and one of the smaller teeth next to front (bottom). I have my records apt in 2 and a half weeks time and will find out for definate then but thought i'd ask, hope you dont mind.

Well that was the original plan a few years ago, the prediction my regular dentist had made, and in fact yesterday he told me he'd rather had taken the tooth out before (originally I was to have 4 - the same tooth on each side, top and bottom). But I went to the orthodontist and this was lowered to two, then to just the one - since it's a baby tooth and there is no adult to replace it. My orthodontist said I'd have the tooth out halfway through treatment, close the gaps and that'd be it. My original estimate was 18 months, so the tooth should have gone at 9 months. After 20 months the tooth is finally out!

So presumably you've got a while in braces to go, the estimate to close gap is a year isn't it?

Something like that, unfortunately :( the last time I asked when they'd be off, which was around Christmas, he told me Easter time.

I had 4 extractions and alot of pain in the teeth on either side. My dentist said it was caused by the pliers banging onto the teeth when he was trying to pull out the one inbetween. Mine took about a week to stop hurting :)

i'd say that some of the pain is just from the teeth having space to move as well... soreness from the shifting. also, just general bruising in that area and trauma to the gum and bone. i'm pretty sure i had general soreness all around my mouth.. give it a week or so.
