Congrats on your debrace, Dave!

I agree with you, I think that your friend is just so used to having seen you pre-braces, and then with braces, that he is not yet used to seeing you with your "perfect" teeth.

I would say kudos to your orthodontist for properly aligning your teeth, and to you for keeping up with the regimen!

I'd say your friend is envious of your new smile :D perhaps even a little jealous.

The only way straight teeth look "too perfect" is if you have veneers done to make them look so good to the point that they look unnatural.

The ortho assistant is already after telling me on a couple occasions that i should get veneers on my upper lateral incisors. And i just say my goal is straight teeth, i don't care about them being perfect.

LOL! Oh I know, ughbraces, the ortho I just saw mentioned veneers too. I just told him I want to try and fix my bite and then worry about cosmetic things later. I think if I get rid of the cause of uneven wear on my teeth then I might not NEED anything cosmetic....

I'm oddly leery of anything where you'd interfere with healthy teeth, ortho doesn't count since for the most part you arent doing anything except moving them. It would make me sick to get veneers and then have to replace them suddenly because they cracked or failed - not to mention expensive.

A downside to braces end result

Before starting my orthodontic journey I consulted a dental specialist about veneers. He advised that they only last a certain amount of years and then eventually need to be replaced. This would be very costly on an ongoing basis.

Congrats Dave on getting debraced! I know you had a rough time with the hardware, especially in the beginning....glad you made it through.

As for the comment, WOW, what a compliment!

Were you able to get that bonded upper retainer? I've been told I'll be getting a bonded lower and upper Essix (someday that is!).

Every time I ask people about bonded uppers - and orthos too - they always say it's a case by case basis, or they break more easily. I know for sure I would not have had any relapse with a bonded upper, and I've seen the flossable ones too, which is what I'd ask for now. I wouldn't forego the removables, I'd still wear them, but it would be nice to have extra insurance!
