Ins said yes? *fingers crossed*

I got a call from my ortho's office today and they told me I actually have coverage... so I called Delta and they told me the same thing. I wonder if something changed that I didn't know about in January. I hope hope hope it wasn't a misunderstanding, as they will pay half of the charges if it's true! That makes a huge difference between me being able to do this in a month or 6 months!

My Delta considers half to be 1500, but I think it's safe to say you can do the happy dance now!!

Hi alimommy1!

Not to rain on your parade, but get documentation stating they are going to cover it. This happened to me as well, but then I had to pay.

The orthodontist said Delta would cover it. I called Delta myself to make sure and they said yes. A few months into treatment, Delta said they could not cover it because it was considered cosmetic due to my age (35) and I had to fork over another $1000.00 to the orthodontist.

Please do not take this as me being a jerk, I just wanted to let you know about my experience so you don't have to go through what I did.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will cover you!

Good luck!!!

Hi Hal2me! Don't worry, I think that's very good advice and I may see if delta is willing to send me a written determination of benefits in regards to the coverage - which at least I'd have then stating the amounts they would be paying to my ortho (even if they turned around and then attempted not to) and the dates - because as it was explained, they pay 50% of the total, up to $1500. The rep I spoke with yesterday said for example if my total was $1500, they would pay $750 - $325 immediate, then the other half in two payments at 9 months and then 18 months, or when treatment was completed. No matter what I do, I will have to do a combination of cash and finance , especially if they expect full payment upfront. My treatment may only last 3 months, so it's not like I have 2 years of time to 'hope' delta doesn't go back on their word. It's also not cosmetic in a general sense, my teeth aren't crooked, it's more of a bite issue - this is how my teeth meet in the front from a profile view:

Does that make sense? It has always bothered me, it bothered me more after my uppers got a little wonky from losing my retainer. I had treatment approx 13 years ago and I think my bite was always like this, it was just camoflaged because my upper teeth were in better alignment and my retainers didn't hold them correctly. Apparently I shift my jaw to the left when I open and close my mouth too, which makes me think now there's a tmj issue if I don't do something, and the edges of my teeth will begin to wear unevenly too. The goal with my replacement retainer (which I already have) is to correct the drift and try to push forward my uppers a little, probably with tilt, and then I want to upright my lowers so they aren't sticking out like they are. I think it will make my profile look better too. I know I'm probably being really picky but I have to live with my teeth lol. If cost wasn't an issue I would just get regular braces again, but with a recent graduate from hs and the fact that it would take at least 2 years (based on two consults), I wanted a faster option since it's only an issue with the fronts.

Hi alimommy1,

Thanks for the reassurance. Sometimes it is hard to express yourself properly through email/messaging. :D

Sounds like they are going to cover your braces because it is not cosmetic as your decribed. Good for you! That's fantastic. Mine is more cosmetic. My bite is good, but my teeth were very crooked. Of course, the dentist I had been going to since I was 7 recommends I need braces 17 years after I get bumped off my mother's dental.

You have every right to be picky about your teeth! After investing so much time and effort into wearing braces to fix them, be picky!

Congratulations to you! Wish my treatment were only 3 months. Then again, I only have 3 months left to go!

Have a great weekend!!!

Good Luck!

And don't be afraid to call and ask the questions about your coverage, limits, and payments for treatment.
