Today's Adjustment

#1 Post by AaronD2010 »

When I went to my ortho appt. today, he mentioned something that I thought was very interesting. As he told the assistant what wire to put on today he said, "Make sure you Figure 8 the EL's". I am very curious to know what he meant. I'm going to assume the "EL's" are elastic ligatures and I obviously know what a figure 8 is.

My question is what does the figure 8 do versus the other ways of putting the ligs on? What other ways are there to put the ligs on?

Hmmm... I think that sometimes they just pop the ligs on, so it looks like an O around the bracket. The figure 8 tie-in maybe holds the wire tighter? It looks different... like an 8, all I can guess is that it's a stiffer hold. I remember my ortho changing how my ligs were tied in occasionaly, as well as using wire ties. Maybe one of the orthos here can explain it.
