People who had braces in their 40's or olde-Was it worth it?
Moderator: bbsadmin
Yes! Definitely worth it -every minute and bit of pain! I am 53 - soon to be 54. I've had braces for 4 1/2 months, 26 1/2 months to go. I wish I had thought of getting them sooner. I kept delaying work on my teeth for several years because I needed bridgework and didn't have the chunk of money it would cost. Then a thought popped into my head - why not get braces to correct my crooked teeth and close the gaps? The cost was negligible only with braces you can have monthly payment plan and you still have your own teeth! I'm glad I got them - wish I had thought of it sooner then I would be debraced at this point in time! I highly recommend braces at any age - it improves your appearance and your health.
50+ ceramics top and bottom as of 2-16-10
Scheduled to have braces removed on 8-16-12!!

Got braced at 42. It's been almost 20 months with 6 more to go.
There hasn't been a day that's gone by where I haven't cursed these dang things in my mouth. I'm SO ready to be finished with this process... January '11 seems like so far away.
That said: I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. I hated my teeth. Even with braces, my smile was more confident after the first 3 months.
My gnarly teeth used to define me (my perception, anyway) and it will be so worth it to have a broad, toothy smile.

Well worth the money and time spent. I never had any pain so I can't tell if that's worth it but I guess it is.
Sadly my bite has shifted some so my ortho is putting me in braces again. Roughly a year after my bottom braces come off one tooth shifted pretty bad so I'm in for yet a time wearing braces. Bottom only but I will manage.
On monday (2010-07-05) I will know what need to be done more than being braced. According to my ortho my jaws has decided to move around some teeth on it's own will.

I'm 41, have been braced for 23 months now, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The day I realized I was able to take a bite out of a sandwich with my teeth rather than pulling a piece off with my fingers, I almost cried. They are occasionally uncomfortable, but nothing that some ibuprofen & wax won't cure. And if you're concerned about what people will think or say - honestly, I was disappointed to discover that most people don't even notice them!

I was 49 and scared to death as to what my students would say. Scared about what my extended family would say. Worried if it would be as miserable as when I was 18 and did it the first time.
I'm about four months debraced and can say without a doubt, that getting braced again, with jaw surgery thrown in, it was one of the best things I've done in my life. Its a bit lower than adopting my children and getting married but it ranks right up the with everything else.

I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
But who's counting?

I was 62 on July 14th. I got braces on July 17th. Only the bottom teeth. I had invisilign about 4 years ago, but lower teeth really went crooked again. I get this from people: Aren't you too old for braces? I hope to live another 20 years or so, and I want to die with my teeth. Besides, I am in great health and feel terrific. Any other 60-somethings on the board????
