Hello everyone - I'm new to the board, just joined today. I'm 47; have 6 total brackets on my back teeth and 4 spacers and will be wired up on this coming Wed. the 25th. It's great to find some supporters out there; my family isn't being very supportive because I really can't afford to do this! I've had 4 teeth extracted so there's no going back now! It's taken me this long to get up the nerve to finally do this - something I wish I had done many years ago. Any advice? The brackets have given me a very hard time but they're just now becoming more bearable. Still very hard to eat, and my 2 upper teeth next to the extraction site are very sore. I'm a teacher so all of this has been done while I was off for the summer, but I'm due to go back the day before I get all the work done! Tried to get everything done before I go back but it just didn't work out that way.

Hi musicluver. Well done on taking the plunge. Sounds like we've got a few things in common - I'm 47 at the end of this year & I'm also a teacher (turns out there's a few of us use this forum - see previous thread). As far as work is concerned don't worry too much. I got wired in June, a month before the summer hols, & the students were brilliant - very supportive & offered loads of advice. I guess it depends what age group you teach (mine are 16-18 so should be mature). I didn't have any trouble talking either. I've got Damon braces so didn't have any of the initial spacers etc but I did end up with them between two molars before my first adjustment because I lost the two lower back brackets (teeth more silver fillings than tooth so they wouldn't stick). For me, 2.5 months in, that has been the worst part by far. Good luck with it all. Sorry to hear your family aren't that supportive. Mine were fine about it (although my two teenage sons thought it was hilarious to have a Facebook discussion on their Mum's full set of braces), but they're just bored of discussing it now. I honestly don't think they take any notice any more. You'll look back & be glad you've gone ahead :D Have a great school year![/u]

Thanks to you both! So you know Trace, I teach preschoolers! I will at least have the first week with no kids; I just hope I have the energy to set up my room!
Again, thanks for the support!
