Notice my lower face is filling back out-and I love it.

#1 Post by believer1964 »

I had noticed as my teeth got worse and teeth top front teeth shifting back and other teeth going forward etc that my face was getting narrower and hollower, and lips looking flat etc

I am on my third week of braces, I can tell my lower face is filling out and I have more projection instead of flatness. My lips are starting to look like they did 10 years ago. This didnt start until end of last week. I am noticing my top teeth are aligning and top front teeth are not tilted back as much.

I am hoping this is not just the braces themselves and it is because my teeth going back to where they were 10 years ago. I didnt have this fullness the first two weeks and 1/2 I got braces.

Anyone else notice facial changes like that?

That's great! It's a very fast change for you. I wonder why that is. Have you gained any weight at all?

As if anyone could gain weight in their first few weeks in braces!! Didn't you resort to the porridge and soup diet and end up with the flattest stomach you've had for years?

Seriously though Believer, I also noticed a fast shift in my teeth, and am keeping my fingers crossed for a fuller looking face. It's not happened so far but I only just got the bit of my braces that will widen my arch. Not proper jaw expansion like some people have had, but just pulling the teeth out to the sides if that makes sense. Hopefully I'll notice a change in the next few weeks too. Keep us posted.

Actually I might have gained weight at the beginning. I shifted my relatively healthy diet over to creamy things like ICE CREAM. LOL. Of course I did soup too, but that wasn't filling enough. There are a lot of fattening things you can eat while recovering, like chocolate.

Mmm, Snickers... not even gonna try eating one of those. I was very excited on hols in the States to see you have peanut butter M&Ms. I've never seen them here in the UK so am currently in chocolate peanut rehab. It's just not worth the pain and effort of cleaning my teeth afterwards. I will admit to a new-found love affair with ice cream though!

YES.. speaking of peanut butter. I would binge on pbj sandwiches. I know that sounds painful if you're just on braces, however.. I would actually smash everything together in a bowl, so it was kind of mushy, and then eat it. Doesn't sound appetizing I know, but it tasted just as good as a regular looking pbj sandwich!!! So yeah, a diet of pbj, chocolate, and ice cream? I definitely did not lose weight!!! lol...

Sardines sounds way too healthy to be a comfort food!! Excellent if you enjoy them, but my personal 'soft' favourite is currently chocolate chip brioche. Wonder what it's like toasted with peanut butter on... Oh, and nutella pancakes - always a favourite. Loving the mushy sandwich option - will remember that trick post-surgery when the blender's worn out!
