Stains on teeth

#1 Post by TraceA »

My teeth are really opening up after 3 months of braces. I've got a few stains that weren't noticeable before but are very obvious now. Does anyone know of a sytem of whitening I could use that would just lighten the stained areas until I get my braces off & can get the whole lot whitened?

Brush with baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). You can add some hydrogen peroxide to make a paste or just use water.

Funny you should mention this. I caught a glimpse of my teeth without the wires in today at the orthodontist's office and noticed some stains too. When I asked about it, they told me to wait until the braces are off because the stains may lighten over time now that they are exposed to your toothbrush. My teeth were so close together, that whitening kits could not reach them.

Best of luck to you! Please keep us posted if you find a product!!

I noticed this too, stains on areas of my teeth i've never seen before because they were so crowded! I think you can get a special file to take stains off but i might ask my Ortho next time i'm in.

I've noticed some staining also as my overcrowded teeth have started moving apart. Bit nervous to do anything about it though, in case I end up with patchy teeth when the brackets come off due to the bits underneath not being exposed to the stain remover.

Trying not to think about it too much, could be worse, I suppose... - will wait it out and sort it out when they're off...

I find getting a professional clean at the dentist helps make staining less noticeable. Or if you're game, try a whitening toothpaste.

The scaling and polishing my hygienist does usually takes care of this. I'm not a smoker and only and intermittent coffee drinker. Remember that using any kind of whiting product (even the toothpaste) may cause your teeth to be spotty after the brackets come off.

Exactly the problem I am facing with one of my molars that was so close to the other one. There is staining between those teeth. Uh gross. I am so looking forward to the day I can get my entire set of teeth whitenend. My teeth have always been pretty white anyway but seeing staining bothers me so much. May just do whitening toothpaste on that tooth for now since I can kinda get between it now.
