I also have a missing upper lateral incisor. Mine is on the left. I will be getting the implant sometime after debanding. My ortho told me he would fit me with a retainer with a flapper(fake tooth) until we can afford to have the implant done. Did you wear your retainer with the fake teeth all day everyday until you had the implants done? I was told that the fake tooth would help to keep the space opened until the implant was done. Can I ask how the implant procedure is done. I'm kinda scared about the thought of having a something screwed into my jaw.
I didn't notice the tilt of your teeth at all. The average joe probably wouldn't unless you pointed it out to them.
Woa my teeth got crooked!!

I was told the same thing about the space being maintained by the fake tooth.Star wrote: My ortho told me he would fit me with a retainer with a flapper(fake tooth) until we can afford to have the implant done. .
The surgery was not that painful, local anaesthesia. Kinda like a tooth extraction. Of course, the surgeon needs to be skilled; to ensure not hurting the roots of the adjacent teeth, not hitting nerves etc. Bone does not have nerve endings, only soft tissue does.
The scary part is just what CAN go wrong, but with a skilled surgeon, you should be OK.
Perhaps you should have been more dilligent in your ret wear.wearetheborg wrote:Do you mean the retainers might have been defective; or just that I should haave worn the retainers 24/7 for two years till I got the implants?drrick wrote:In these types of cases retention is critical.
Without proper retention this type of thing can happen.

Thanks for your input wearetheborg. It's the whole procedure that scares me and how long this process takes not to mention the cost.
I will wear my retainer with flapper everyday all day. I'm not a huge fan of walking around with a huge hole in the front of my mouth. Right now I do have a flapper attached to the archwire and so far it has only popped off once in the 13 months I have had it in.
drrick,
Can I ask just how long can I wait after my braces come off to have the implant done? I really don't want too much time to go by but I know this procedure is going to cost a fortune.

I typicLly like to wait abut 3 months post ortho before getting the implant (provided we are talking about a nongrowing adult)
