First appointment since getting braced...

#1 Post by hypocrite opportunist »

Is in a few days. I was hoping that after 2 months I would see some improvement in my teeth, but alas they look pretty much the same. I've compared day 1 pictures to my teeth 2 months later, and one tooth has moved ever so slightly, but that's it. I hope they give me a heavier wire at this appointment...maybe that will get things moving. Also, outside the first couple of weeks, I have had absolutely no pain. I understand clearly that pain is not necessary for movement, but between the lack of pain and the lack of any movement, it's kind of felt like I haven't even had braces on!

Your post sounds like it could have been written by me when I was at your point. To make matters worse, at my first appointment after getting braces, I didn't even get a wire change. What a let-down. I was beginning to wonder if perhaps I had that extraordinary set of teeth that just wouldn't respond to braces! Really, it took about 3 to 4 months for me to see anything worth getting excited about and it didn't help when I would read posts here from people saying they could see changes after one month, one week, or one day! BUT....rest assured YOUR teeth will move....I promise! Mine REALLY started getting with the program at around 5 months.

Thanks for your response. And yes, it's hard for me not to compare my own experience with that of others' who have lots of movement in a short period of time. And hey, it could be worse...I could have been in pain this whole time, so at least I have been lucky in that respect.

my first appointment, 5 weeks after fitting was just to change the ligs. he said he wouldnt change the wire until my teeth had straightened more. Im 3 months in and still got the original wire!!!
have definately seen movement though, he is going to file/shave my teeth on monday i think to make more room! argh!
dont worry, i think some people just see movement a lot quicker!

I think the first few several weeks (like, up to 16 or so, apparently) in braces must be the worst, when you're waiting for the movement to start. To put it in perspective, though, before I got braces I was under the impression that it took teeth a full 2 *years* to ever-so-slowly move into place. I didn't realize they started moving as soon as 2 or 3 or 4 months. Looking at it that way, having movement start at 4 or 5 months seems kinda quick! :-)
