debrace in a year only... but unhappy. HELP

#1 Post by 1fifthmiles »

hi, today when to the ortho, and i have forgot to mention to my ortho about my concern. cos she's normally busy with some stuff and when i enter, she would just ask me to sit and choose my colour so there isnt time for me to talk to her. so... while she's doing my teeth she told me that i can take my braces off. (but i cant possibly stop her, cos she's working on my mouth and i cant talk).

then when she finished i wanted to talk to her, but the receptionist came in. and her assistant followed me out. so, i didnt have a chance to talk to her.

anyway, ive posted this before, but nobody has replied. but now its really urgent cos my ortho is gonna remove my braces and i dont want my bite to stay like this!!!!!

so here's the problem
<img src="http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148 ... roblem.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">

this was the time when my dentist gave me class II elastics on both sides. but i think it was supposed to be class II on the left and III on the right.

i am a really awkward person.. and i am scared that for my next appt my dentist would be really busy again when i enter, and then i cant tell her about my concern again, and i hope to tell her this before she take out my braces!!! so do you think... i will come across as being too... _______ if i ask my sis to drop her email regarding my braces?

I wouldn't have your sister email them. Either call them on the phone or speak up before she gets started on you when you are at your next appointment.

its a private clinic. and the its always the receptionist answering the phones. my dentist has a packed schedule like 15 mins for each appointments. she doesnt a phone inside. and so i cant contact my orthodontist. plus she doesnt answer phone calls. AND ONE THING, she doesnt remember all her patients. its very business-orientated clinic... i guess. i just realised it and i regret.

Well I didn't think you would be able to talk directly with your orthodontist over the phone. But you explain your concerns to the receptionist whose job it is to take messages, the receptionist will then ask the dr. about it and call you back to let you know what was said. Thats the way it worked at my dr.'s office.

Call, email or express your concern at your next appointment, regardless you won't be satisfied until you receive an adequate response. Good luck.

My experience is a tactful email request an opportunity to discuss concerns at the next appointment works wonders, although I think it would be best received coming from patient rather than third party.

how hard is it to say "doc, i have a few questions"? Then lay her your concerns. Im sure she can spare a few minutes during your appointment to discuss these issues...Your the one paying for her service, not the other way around. Speak up...

of course asking for your sisters help is alright she should make it real clear how uncomfortable your bite is and you dont want to be left this way. It would be even better if your parents called and asked to consult with the doctor about your concerns. Stand your ground until someone listens to you

your going to half to say excuse me but i have a few question and sit up in the chair so she cant start working on your mouth. You can also say my bite is really bad and uncomfortable can you please make molds of my teeth before you take off the braces so i can show you how it feels my teeth are comming together in my mouth

If your sister is your guardian, then yes, have her call the office and let them know about your concerns. If she is not, then you need to tell your parents your concerns and have them call the orthodontist. Have your parents tell the receptionist that at your next appointment your bite needs to be addressed and to please make a note of that in your file. If you are uncomfortable being assertive with the doctor then, at your next appointment, have your parent come with you to the chair and remind the doctor of the phone conversation. In the practice I went to, parents often accompanied their child to the chair. The doctor or assistant always explained to the parent what was going on. Your parent coming with you into the clinic area should not be weird or inappropriate. Good luck and keep us posted.
