Ok,
So my braces journey is coming to an end. Overall, I am happy. I will need a bit of bonding afterwards, but that is ok and my dentist has a new procedure for getting rid of black triangles. Therefore, I believe I am going to really like my smile in the end. Here is the problem - I am terrified to have the braces removed. Not the removal itself, but the idea of regression, shifting, etc... My braces have sort of become my "security" blanket. Does this make sense or have I just gone crazy!!!

I don't know!
As far as everyone getting black triangles I couldn't answer that. Mine are VERY small. My dentist went to a conference not to long ago and learned about a new method for treating black triangles. You take a filler, I think it is similar to what is used for filling in wrinkles. Anyway, she will give me a small injection in the gum and it is supposed to plump it up and fill in the triangular space. It is supposed to last anywhere from 2-3 years and is relatively in-expensive ($100 per session not tooth) and, you need a total of 2-3 sessions. Therefore, $200 - $300 total every 2-3 years.
Again, I can not tell you what this is called and the name of the filler. Hope this helps.

you are not the only one..i'm very scared that my teeth will move after braces, even very little movement, i don't want it at all, it would make me really sad after all this time...lindesd wrote:Not the removal itself, but the idea of regression, shifting, etc... lindesd - could you ask your dentist about it when you see them next? I, too, have black triangles between my first and second top teeth on both sides. My ortho mentioned doing something like that, but I don't think he had ever heard of it in practice. I would love to pass the info on to him. As it stand now I will be getting IPR to close them up.
Omg, radiesse for black triangles?? Or juvederm? It sounds like radiesse. That sounds really kind of freaky, lol. I would be worried that there would be long term damage to your gums and your roots, etc.. if you inject something there. Sometimes injectables causes lumps and bumps.. what if that happens around your teeth? It could loosen it up and cause tooth failure. Of course I'm thinking worst case scenarios, but that is such a bizarre idea. Very interesting.
