haywire wrote:i have metal bands and i never had spacers
they went in pretty hard though.
I'm hoping one of mine wont be like this. I have 9 spacers currently and all seem to have worked well, apart from one. I don't want a band to be forced into a tight space, I'd rather go away and leave another spacer in for an extra week.

Are yours bracketed instead?
The 'metal bands' haywire describes are these:
They are like a band/belt that goes round the tooth, and on that band is a tube for the archwire. Some people who do have bands, have them because of fillings or crowns as sometimes brackets themself have a hard job sticking.
Braces: Metal fixed upper and lower Estimated treatment time: 18-24 months Braces Removed: August 2013 (after 33 months in braces) Retainers: Upper & lower essix and lower bonded My Story / Before & After photos

Omg, Chrystal! Where were you last night--where I pretty much stayed up alllll night researching the topics "are spacers necessary for everyone?" Thanks so much for your reply---it explained everything so clearly! Unlike last night-----where I found bits and pieces of information and had to somehow glue it all together instead! LOL I sm a TOTAL braces newb--I'm still trying to learn the lingo and all the parts of the braces! heheh

No problem . I was like that before too, and I still have alot to learn. I didn't know what molar bands were... not even ligatures at one point. But with the help of this forum you will soon learn all the braces lingo.

You are 3 days away! Are you freaking out yet?! I have been on this board non-stop...it's pretty addicting! hehe
I'm a little bit nervous for Thursday, but that's mainly because I seem to keep questioning myself "am I doing the right thing?" and hope I don't panic once they are fitted, as there is no going back!
I agree, this Forum is great and is very helpful. I visit every day.
Good luck for tomorrow! and keep us posted on how it goes.
