gingivectomy? Anyone had this done?

#1 Post by blueberry*bunni »

I was wondering if anyone has gotten a gingivectomy? I have a gummy smile and I'm looking for some feedback on the procedure?

Gingivectomy

Yes! I had it done last week. I had the front social 6 done. My gum line slanted and low side was gummy looking. I am thrilled with the result. It exceed my expectation. My general dentist performed the laser procedure with a local anesthetic. they were able to remove quite a bit of tissue-- probably 4-5 mm from the low side. I felt it a little bit because only the soft tissue was numbed. The gums were a little sore to the touch for a few days. I had to avoid biting into things directly. but no pain meds were needed. It healed fast, and did not look too unsightly during healing, just a bit red. I paid about $300 for the procedure. I did not submit it to insurance. My smile looks so much better now. I am getting veneers after the first of the year, but I hardly need them now. :D

I had one not to long ago. It was a "Piece of Cake". My doc used a laser and I had minimal bleeding and ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN! Again, it was a breeze!!! I think I need a bit more removed from one tooth though!

No gingivectomy done but I did have a piece of gum grow and cover over half of a tooth out of nowhere. Dentist sliced it off and glued something over the area. Didn't hurt at all. There was some blood after the glue thing went away.

Just take some advil ahead of time and you'll be ok. I always take advil before dentist appts. But surprisingly, gums don't hurt that much.
