What do you bring to eat when flying?

#1 Post by MdHuskerFan »

I'm going to be flying (short flight, 4 hours) and since I'm limited on what I can bring to eat, no soup, yogurt, I"m wondering what you bring for snacks when you fly. I'm able to eat most foods, but I don't want to worry about food being stuck so I'd like to stick to softer foods (easier to swish). Any advice?

I recently did a couple of daylong flights and just made sure I had a proxy brush in my pocket. I ate whatever looked not too toxic at the airports and bought bottled water. It felt really good to brush when I got to my hotel/back home!

So I decided on Nutrigrain bars, string cheese and those packets of apples already sliced up.

I had Buddy Fruits which was so easy to carry and consume but they aren't terribly filling. I also bring chocolate milk or a yoghurt drink.

It's nice to have protien, so I take tofu, the kind that is smoked or flavored, cut into small chunks...great if you are vegan or not...not so much chewing, or at least with only back teeth. Bananas are not so bad, but I always feel that sugar is sitting on my teeth with fruit, so I generally avoid it if it is impossible to brush....oh, and avocado is great cut into chunks too! Usually there is a jamba juice or something in the airport during stop-overs. Also, powdered soups, like instant miso soup packets are great...just ask for hot water on the plane!

I think you can bring on one of those really tiny containers of applesauce, as long as it's under 3 ounces.

There are yogurts in packets. Usually they're in flavors kids like, but it's better than nothing. There are also really small yogurts that are less than 4 ounces.

I eat whatever they serve on the plane. I have yet to find any food in flight or out which is not braces compatible. Maybe nut-covered candy apples.

Sometimes they don't have straws which is really annoying.

When you fly, you can select a kosher meal, vegetarian meal, gluten-free meal, allergic-to-nuts meal, so why not a metal-mouth meal? I guess we still lack the political clout.
