How much is orthodontic work in hospital (uk)

#1 Post by Loztredders »

So now I've had to be referred to hospital for my treatment, do I expect to be paying about the same as for private treatment.
Or am I right in thinking it may be a little cheaper? I'm kind of hoping so, since I've gotta wait so long. Lol!!
Also she said something about having to pass a Hygiene test, but she said that my oral hygiene is good so I should pass that :-/.

Hi there,

When I was referred to the hospital it meant that my teeth were that bad that I qualified for treatment free so I'm not sure?

I had to pass a hygiene test too. So long as you brush well and floss then you should pass no problems and I think you get three chances at it so you shouldn't worry about that.

Good luck!

That would be so amazing to get it free!! Particularly since I'm not exactly well off by any means!!
I've been referred due to a couple of short roots on my front teeth, so whilst they don't look too bad on the surface, my private ortho was worried about taking on my case so has referred me to hospital.
What exactly does the hygeine test involve? Do they watch you brushing and flossig etc.... That's gonna make me a little uncomfortable! Lol. :-}

When I was referred to the hospital, it was because my bite was bad enough to need orthognathic surgery aswell as braces and so I get my orthodontics covered by the NHS.
This is the first I have heard of a hygeine test, I didnt go through anything like that, but I suppose they did check my teeth and xrays before commencing treatment and therefore could check for any signs of bad hygeine there.

Good luck x
