I've had my braces on for about a month. I started with an overbite (front teeth covering 60% of bottom instead of the ideal 10%), slight overjet of two front teeth. The front teeth still have 1/3 of the way to go to be aligned with the top arch. I also have a reverse smile-line. My ortho planned on elastics down the road to correct the overbite.
Anyway, my profile has always looked like this. I have thick lips, I'm okay with that. But I hate how my top lip is protruding so much compared with the bottom.
From your experience and knowledge:
Will fixing the reverse smile-line make my face longer (a plus for me)?
Will my top lip be aligned with my bottom better?

Re: Reverse smile-line & overbite... Will my profile change?
Now everyone is different. but my teeth were in bad shape. My entire face has changed for the better. My situation before braces is this: I had very deep overbite, top two teeth tipping in badly, my teeth were of different lengths and and just bad. My face was getting narrower and older looking.
I have been in braces for 4 months and my eyes look younger and my lower jaw is filling out. Its is hard to explain. I look 10 years younger. I look so much softer in the face. My eyes were getting a "hard" look. I am not joking. My top teeth are all one length now and even and no longer tipping inwards. My bite is far from perfect as I in only in my 4th month. I think alignment of teeth is very very important for facial asthetics.
The ortho did not want to pull any teeth as not to mess up facial asthetics.

Re: Reverse smile-line & overbite... Will my profile change?
oh i forgot to mention--due to my teeth shifting badly , my lip posture was getting bad...one top front tooth was sticking out and pulling my right bottom lip in.
since the tooth no longer sticks out that is no longer happening. I think so far my lip posture looks better too.

Re: Reverse smile-line & overbite... Will my profile change?
If overbite correction and elastics are in your future then I'd say your upper lip will probably be less protrusive once the upper teeth are pulled back. I'm not sure what you mean by a reverse smile line, but I think that a less protrusive upper lip may give the impression of a longer-looking face.
Re: Reverse smile-line & overbite... Will my profile change?
Thanks for your responses! I'm looking forward to seeing some facial and profile changes. For the better I hope.
From what my Ortho explained to me, a reverse smile-line is what happens when you have an open bite. Now mine is so mild with overbite that there's no gap between the top and bottom arch. Essentially, your top front teeth are suppose to be lower than teeth in the back so your lips naturally curve up in the corners ever so slightly. But when I smile, my back teeth show more than they should and don't follow the curve of my smile by turning up in the back.
Does that make sense? Does anyone else know how to explain it? Has anyone had this fixed? How did it affect your features?
Thanks!
