Revision of genioplasty

Revision of genioplasty
I had an advancement genioplasty done 5 days ago and I don't like the aesthtic outcome. I had micrognathia and that is why I opted for the procedure. Now my chin looks too large and acromegalic and my face looks unattractively long. I am considering getting a partial revision done so that my chin wouldn't project forward as much as it already does. I'm deeply depressed right now and I would appreciate it, if anyone who has gone through a similar situation could share their experience with me. Please help!
Re: Revision of genioplasty
Hi -
You'll probably find more information and advice if you post something in the orthognathic surgery section. However, I think I've read that you just have to give it some time to get to the shape it really will be. If you only had your procedure 5 days ago, it's probably too early to tell what you'll really look like. I wouldn't jump to get a revision just yet. Good luck though!

Re: Revision of genioplasty
Thanks sadpanda. I know you are right. I should give it some more time. I just feel awful cos I waited 7 years to get this surgery done and the surgery and the post op period was quite challenging and stressful. I just hope that I'd look better after the swelling subsides. :)
Re: Revision of genioplasty
It has been almost 12 days post op and things are looking better. The swelling has disappeared although there's still a little bit right in front of the chin. My face is starting to look like what I wanted it to be.
Re: Revision of genioplasty
Hi, I read your post and feel the same, I am 3days post op - genioplasty and really worried as my chin is so long. I fell I no longer look feminine and wish to reverse the procedure. Can you let me know how you are getting on and if when the swelling reduced??? Did the chin look smaller in length?

Re: Revision of genioplasty
Also, did u feel you were looking at someone else? I cannot recognise myself partly due to the swelling (my whole lower face is unrecognisable). But the chin is still very big and long x: (
Re: Revision of genioplasty
Mia, I understand what you are going through. I even cried cos I thought my face looked long and acromegalic and of course unfeminine. But the swelling will dramatically come down in a matter of days. It has been 14 days since I got the surgery done and now the swelling is almost non existent. Above all I like the result :) I know it's depressing when you don't recognize the person you see in the mirror. A word of advice from me. "Don't scrutinise yourself in front of the mirror, cos it'll worsen how you feel emotionally". Stop worrying. The swelling will come down and I'm sure you'd like the underlying bone and how it looks like. I know I did and a lot of others did too. Hang in there and good luck. If you have any questions feel free to ask me:)
Re: Revision of genioplasty
Oh and about the revision, I felt that I might need one during the first week cos my chin looked huge. But I changed my mind. I'm glad I went along with the genioplasty. It has made a huge difference. I feel more confident and happy. :) So don't rush into a revision. Give it some time. You really can't make any decisions with that swelling distorting your face :)
Re: Revision of genioplasty
Hi Toyrus,
Thank you for your post, i have been upset for a few days and can definately i been doing some crying. I have my appointment next week with the surgeon. It's reassuring to know someone feels the same and your right - everytime i look in the mirror i feel like a freak. And it is upsetting so been staying away from the mirrow for a day.
I can't say im totally off the idea of the revision as my chin looks very long and we did discuss maybe adding some length as I have a very small chin. But iam very emotional and alot of regrets and looking at my old face, which surprising i luv - even with the receding chin. I was told i would need the about 10mm if possible to try and bring inline with lips, thats why i thought maybe that added more length.
Did you put up some pictures of before and after?
Thank you im trying to keep occupied with xmas movies xx

Re: Revision of genioplasty
I came acroess lisab28 too, while desperately looking for info on genioplasty revision. Patience is the key. You'll get a fair idea of what your chin would look like around 10 days after the operation. So you'll have enough time to decide what you want to do.
Totally agree with what you said about roast potatoes :)
By the way if you don't mind me asking, how old are you. I am 24 and I waited 7 years to get a genioplasty done :)

Re: Revision of genioplasty
I've had two consultations with my surgeon post op. He is very happy about the result. I've been told by a few people that the whole procedure has emphasized my nose and has made it look sharp and long ( and I like it that way)
Looking back, I can't believe how swollen I was right after surgery
The first week could be really depressing. It was for me and a lot of other people who underwent the same procedure. Hang in there. I know it's easy for me to say. My face looked so long and looked even longer when I opened my mouth to talk. I spent hours in front of the mirror wondering how to talk without making my face look too long and wierd, lol. I'm sure you'll have a good laugh once the swelling comes down
By the way keep your head elevated when you sleep. It would help reduce the swelling.
Quit worrying

Re: Revision of genioplasty
Hey,
Thanks I read somewhere here i think about the elevated sleeping position and is helping alittle with swelling (but only started 2/3 days ago).
Cool sounds really good news from the consultant, wow i haven't got the nerves to unmask myself (except bro & mum - who got a quick peek). Is it strange feeling going out with ur new chin
Crazy how emotional surgery makes us Definately agree, nothing prepares u for the first week!.....Looking in the mirrow, looking at my old profile picts & thinking my mum was right i was beautiful the way i was.
Its allowed me to enjoy a few movies, shuttler island is good! Salt and watching Hitch for the 20th time (still as funny)!
