Re: Inman aligners
Hi - I signed up to join this thread and hopefully get some support. I've only got two teeth which annoy me - one of my front teeth needs to be pushed forward a little and the one next to it is slightly rotated. I'm getting my moulds taken on Wednesday and i'm a little nervous i have to say. Its only a minor irritation but I'm hopefully getting married next year and want to be able to look at my wedding photos without being bothered about my teeth and also so i dont worry on the day about getting the right angle in every picture so they dont look too bad!
I'm mostly worried that i wont be able to talk. I'm not easily embarrassed but i do have to talk on the phone a lot in a fairly quiet office with everyone listening to me so i dont want to be incoherant. Hopefully it wont be too bad. In a way i just want to get it in and get on with it so i know how bad it is going to be, rather than worrying about it for a few weeks waiting for the thing to turn up.
I've enjoyed reading everyone else's experiences. There isnt much other info out there.

Re: Inman aligners
So I went to see the Dentist yesterday but he said the spring is fine and the aligner is sitting where it should be, with plenty of pressure on the teeth. He also thinks there has been some movement. Going back to 2 weeks for a check up and for a little bit of filing to be done maybe but said there is plenty of space at the moment still. I basically have one front tooth that sticks out too far and needs to be pushed back.
Zedy - Did you not have any pain at the start either? Particularly when you put the IA back in? It still feel pain for about 5 mins after I put the aligner back in!
LilPickle - I wouldn't worry about the people at work, I think most people will be supportive. I still take mine out when I have to make calls, but I'm sure my speech will improve. You could take it out at work of course but it would increase your treatment time.

Hello, everyone i thought i'd make a blog to show my process. Its quite hard to follow someones story on here.
Plus its a lot easy for me to upload photos for people to see.
I only got it fitted today and am a newbie at the whole blogging thing so theres not much there at the moment.
I've explained the fitting and filing i had done and uploaded photos for people to see what the inman (and my teeth) look like.
I wiLL be updating it every so ofter so that you can see the progress of my teeth,
I certainly wish i could have read through someones story (except the ones on here obv.) and seen progress pictures - then i may have had it done 12 months ago rather than being so indesicive lol
Anyway check if out if you like

(p.s my teeth and really REALLY sore, is that usual when ive only had it in a few hours now?)

That's a great idea to do a blog, should really help people who are thinking about the IA.
The pain is normal, your teeth just have to get used to the pressure. After a little while you should only feel pain when you take it out and put it back in.
My composites are about the same thickness and my lip catches on it too but I'm getting used to it.
It seems a lot of people seem to get the IA to get straight teeth for their wedding day.

Re: Inman aligners
I had the moulds taken today and everyone i spoke to who has had braces as a child kept saying how awful it was so i was quite nervous. It was fine! Took hardly any time at all and wasnt uncomfortable particularly. My teeth are quite sensitive though and the clay stuff was cold!
I'm due to go back in two weeks to have it fitted but I have a romantic weekend away booked with my boyfriend over Valentines weekend (which is the weekend after). He's planned it all as a surprise so was thinking i might start to wear my inman after we get back as I dont want to be still trying to get used to having it in when we go away. I'm not sure whether to go to my appointment in two weeks to get it fitted, then just not start wearing it until we get back. Or whether just to delay the whole thing until we get back. I would welcome any thoughts on that?

Hi LilPickle
If it were me, I would delay the fitting appointment until after you get back from your weekend away, rather than get it in 2 weeks and not wear it for the following 2 weeks. You may also have to get those composite blobs on your teeth that hold the IA in place, which will of course still be there even when the IA is out.

Re: Inman aligners
Thanks. That is of course the most sensible option! I dont know what is wrong with me. Totally over thinking it!
I just want to get it in I guess. The quicker i've got it, the less time i've got to worry about how its going to look, how I'm going to sound, etc. I'm trying to think of the most awful scenario so that hopefully, it wont be too bad at all!

Re: Inman aligners
Hi,
I get my inman on Saturday so thought I would join this forum to share experiences with and get some support, it seems there are a few of us starting treatment at the same time. I'm sure you'll all appreciate how nervous I am about it - whether you have already got them or the appointment is coming up! I'm worried about how much it's going to hurt and affect speech etc (and am I being silly being worried about how other people may react... I've told close friends and my immediate team at work but that's obviously not everyone I'm going to see over the next however many weeks!
I was reading you're first post tipps and I feel exactly the same! My teeth aren't really that bad and I'm not a vain person but I feel like I must be one as I'm going to such an extreme to get my teeth sorted. I'm only getting my bottom teeth sorted as I have one that really sticks out and the others have started to move so I want to sort it out before it gets worse. It's been bugging me for a while so went to various dental practices as decided this was the best solution due to the length of time it takes and the fact you can take it out if you're going for a meal or something. I had traintracks as a kid (and am so annoyed they have moved so much after all that effort!)and I did not want to go back to them!
I don't know what everyone else thinks about after the inman but I'm definitely getting a permanent wire retainer fitted so this doesn't happen again and would advise everyone to think about how to keep their teeth perfect post inman.
I'm assuming the first few days (at least) it's going to be quite painful, does it make it difficult to eat? I've just stocked up on soup, what sort of food were people managing/can anyone suggest good foods to eat when it's painful?
I will let you know how Saturday goes (dreading it at the moment) - looking forward to having the support of others going through this and hopefully being able to provide support too.

Re: Inman aligners
Hi dreamer
From what I have read, the IA for the bottom teeth affects speech less than the top one, so you should be ok. As for pain, I still have slightly sore back teeth when I first take it out and chew food, but it's not too bad. I cannot bite into anything though and have to eat everything with a knife and fork. But it's not sore at all when it's in.
I'm definitely getting the wire retainer fitted afterwards as well! I don't want them moving after I've gone through all this! In fact my dentist said we would fit the wire and give me a clear retainer just in case I should knock the wire one out.
Good luck with it, and let us know how you get on!

Good luck dreamer! I'm nervous too so i know exactly how you feel. You'll feel much better once its in and you know what it feels like. I'm jealous! Got four weeks to wait for mine now! You'll be a good part of your way through treatment by then!
Re: Inman aligners
Hi dreamer. Im really nervous to. Im getting my aligner fitted tomorrow. Think I will have sleepless night tonight.lol. I feel the same as you and tipps as my teeth are not that bad but had braces when I was a child and one tooth has started moving forward. Gonna keep everyone updated as this forum has been really helpful in my decision to actually go for it.
Re: Inman aligners
thanks for the support everyone - it means a lot to be able to talk to like minded people who understand the decision and can sympathise with the nerves! It's difficult to make others understand why you would choose to opt to have a brace (even if they don't say it out right you can see from the look on some people's faces)
JackDaniels - thanks for your words of wisdom, always good to first hand experience
LilPickle - I hope you're not going to spend the next four weeks worrying (easier said than done I know) but at least you're getting a nice romanic break before starting it all.
boomerang - good luck tomorrow, let us know how you get on (but try not to scare me too much!)
speak soon

Re: Inman aligners
Hello again,
im just wondering how many hours you all wear your inman for. I wear it all day (i work from home) and take it out for about an hour for each meal (so i can have a nice hot brew after eating lol) - so its out for about 3-4 hours during the day. But i am wondering if people wear it a lot less than that. My reason being that i go out about 2-3 times a week and would like to not wear if from say 7pm-1am. Do you think this will affect my treatment much?

Re: Inman aligners
Hi charlie
I've been wearing mine 20 hours per day at the moment. I also work from home. I take it out in the mornings for about 3 1/2 hours, so I make my phone calls during that time, and it's out for half an hour in the evenings for dinner. Maybe briefly in between those times if I need to make an important call or something.
On the weekends I'm trying to take it out for an hour for each meal. If I go out, I'll try to wear it as much as I possibly can during the day and then take it out just before I go out, and back in before bed. Though I'm trying not to go out so much at the moment. So I guess that although the IA cost a lot of money, it's also sort of saving me money!!
If you go out from 7pm - 1am, then that's 6 hours on top of the 3-4 hours during the day. That 2-3 times a week probably will make a difference to treatment times, but then I wouldn't worry about it too much. 16-20 hours is what's recommended, though some go up to 22 hours. I gather that the teeth do move back quite quickly if the IA is left out for a long time. I imagine it may be a bit different for each person though.

Re: Inman aligners
Got my aligner in today. Im not gonna scare you Dreamer because I feel absolutely fine. So far so good. Got teeth shaved abit, not sore at all. Give me a few days and it could be a different story but quite surprised about how unpainful it is. My estimated treatment time is 5 months so I am at last on my way to straight teeth. My husband cant stop grinning everytime I speak so it will be interestig at work on Monday lol. Im sure I,ll have loads of questions as time passes, its great to have people to ask who are in the same situation.
